Subject: October @ Oaktree! Gratitude, 10 years and 2 amazing stories!!

What are you grateful for?

-Dr. Marie-Pier, Stittsville chiropractor

October. Usually a month of significant change as we truly transition into the fall season. The days are getting shorter and colder, the leaves are changing into a beautiful array of colours, and it's squash and pumpkins for all. October is also the month in which Thanksgiving occurs. And while my family never really celebrated Thanksgiving when I was growing up, I now take the opportunity during the weeks leading up to it to reflect on everything that I am thankful for.

It can be so easy these days to only look at the gloomy sides of our reality. But the truth is that your reality is what you make it. Your mindset has an enormous impact on how you lead your life and how you view things. Learning more about 'growth mindset' has shown me the impact that it can have on learning and achievements. It has allowed me to set goals and understand that setbacks not only happen, but are a key part of growth and future successes. And even though my mindset isn't always perfect, I try to catch myself and change the way I view different scenarios and situations.

So my challenge for you during the month of October is this: each morning when you wake up and are getting ready, think of one thing in your life you are grateful for - your job, your partner, your kids, your home, anything! And while you're getting for bed each night, think of one that that happened that day that you are grateful for - a new learning opportunity, an act of kindness, a beautiful sunrise. Embracing the things that you are grateful for each day can make a world of a difference. Take a moment to write them down, and on an off day, read them and re-inspire yourself. You'll be grateful for your past self.

Getting to the Root Cause

-Dr. Vanessa, downtown chiropractor

Morphine every 4hrs, anti-inflammatory meds every 12hrs, muscle relaxants 3x a day and Advil is what this patient was taking on a daily basis.

This patient is in his early 30’s dealing with extreme shoulder and arm pain with numbness and tingling into his thumb, headaches and poor concentration. The pain was so bad he couldn’t sleep, it was affecting his job (he’s a nurse), he was becoming depressed due to the constant pain, and overall affecting his every day life.

Do you think any amount of medication could fix this? Absolutely not. All of that stress being put on his nervous system wasn’t allowing proper function of his body. Not to mention, the nerves branching off into the arms and hands come from the neck.

Fast forward 6 months into care and this is his new X-ray! His neck measured 30.3mm forward and is now 10.7mm! The curve is also starting to restore. By taking the pressure off his nervous system he has no more pain, NO MORE MEDS, his smile shines so bright every time he comes in and he just passed his NCLEX! This patient has his quality of life back because he found the ROOT CAUSE. We still have some work to do but this progress is amazing!

Imagine what his life would be like 5, 10 years from now if he didn’t take action towards his health?

*This patient has given me permission to post these X-rays and share his story*

Women's Health and Postpartum Recovery

-Dr. Katrina, Orleans chiropractor

My patient Julie recently posted a review of her chiropractic experience with me. When we discussed how debilitating her pain was, I knew I had to help. The most inspiring thing about her story was how we got her back to being an active, strong mother.

"It was around mid-May this year when I started experiencing a sudden unexplained lower back pain and severe discomfort. I was exercising a few days a week and already a very active person. I was following an at home workout program I was familiar with and couldn’t recall “injuring” myself nor remembering anything of the sort that would be causing this issue. Nearing the end of my maternity leave and being at home with an 11-month-old, this pain I was experiencing was starting to affect my quality of life. Going back to work soon and sitting at a desk for most of the day was also beginning to cause me some stress. I was in so much pain. I could no longer exercise effectively without fear of making the pain worse, I was finding it difficult to care for my son, being the only parent home with him in the evening to look after him, even the slightest things like picking him up off the floor or lowering him into his crib at bedtime were movements that seemed second nature before but were beginning to bring tears to my eyes. I knew I had to do something. No amount of self-care, warm baths, foam-rolling, stretching were doing the trick.

I had seen a friend on Instagram post about seeing Dr. Greer. I saw from her profile that she was an experienced Chiropractor who specialized in infants, children, and pregnant/postpartum women. I decided to book a consultation with her right then and there and I do not regret that decision.

Dr. Greer began adjusting subluxations in my low back, but also throughout my midback and neck, to relieve a lot of stress and correct my posture. She also provided me with some additional postpartum exercises to improve the alignment and strength in my low back.

I have now been seeing Dr Greer regularly twice a week for adjustments and have never felt better (driving over 30min each way!). I only regret not going to see her sooner!"

Julie is now coming in once a week for maintenance care, and you can see that she is stronger than ever! IG: @just_julie__3
