What I Learned as a Monk About Business Success

Jay Steven Levin
Public Relations is accessible to anyone these days. Thanks to the internet, social media in particular and the rise of content consumption, there are viral opportunities waiting for you.

You no longer need a Public Relations firm to find media contacts and connect with them. This is great news if you are an entrepreneur and don’t have a huge budget to hire one. In all reality, you don’t need one anyways.

It’s time to take advantage of the time we live in. Here are seven tips to help you get featured in the media, create buzz and gain credibility:
This morning, you woke up well-rested and ready to seize the day. You’re whistling on the way to work, already envisioning conquering that pesky project, saying something witty to the boss in the elevator and rocking the afternoon presentation. You forgot to pack lunch or snacks, but who cares? You’ll continue to slay the day by grabbing lunch with your new coworker.

By the time you walk into your afternoon presentation after a burger and a soda and a whipped cream-topped coffee, your jaunty morning feels a million miles away. You’re sluggish, tired and can’t believe you have to do this presentation now instead of crawling under your desk to sleep.
As a monk I was bound by my vows. They became my role. The deeper I gave myself to my role, the more natural my vows became to me. Spiritually following my vows brought me joy, and joy strengthened and sustained me when doubt and temptation overcame me.

The same is true in business. Adherence to role clarity brings business success. Business success brings joy. Joy foundationally supports career success, despite the business challenges that come. Role clarity increases engagement and utility while decreasing waste and churn.
