APPLETON POST-CRESCENT

APPLETON – A one-of-a-kind visual workspace is coming to the Fox Valley.

Photo Opp, an organization supporting local photographers and videographers, launched last month in Appleton. The nonprofit plans to create a workspace — which will include a studio for photo and video shoots, a darkroom for developing film and much more — for amateur and professional visual artists alike.

The organization’s mission is to improve education and career development in the photography and videography fields, co-founder Graham Washatka said, while creating an inclusive environment where beginners and pros can learn from one another...

Packers-backed TitletownTech is sports VC with a purpose
SPORTICO

GREEN BAY -- Few industries are as high-visibility as sports, and as such, few industries can deliver the outsized impact sports can have on the business world. For Craig Dickman, the fund manager of Green Bay Packers-backed venture capital fund TitleTownTech Ventures, that presents an opportunity to find businesses that can benefit from early funding and potentially have wide-ranging impact beyond the field.

Since 2019, the fund has dedicated its $25 million in initial funding to 21 unique sports-focused or Wisconsin-based startups. Early results are so good that the fund is looking to launch a second fund soon...

Voyageurs Bakehouse opens new location in downtown Appleton
NBC 26

APPLETON — Locally-sourced bread made fresh every day. That’s the promise of Voyageurs Bakehouse. The bakery’s first location in Green Bay opened in March of 2020. Now, the family-owned business has a new home in downtown Appleton, opening its new location at 201 W. College Ave on Thursday.

Co-owners Ben Cadman and Celeste Parins met in Asia while traveling overseas. Cadman says one of the things that stood out to the couple during their travel was the popularity of local bakeries.

“We loved the concept of being able to go to your local bakery and it was modern and fresh and had great coffee, great sandwiches and really nice sourdough bread," Cadman said...

ST. NORBERT COLLEGE

DE PERE -- Young people have all kinds of great ideas, and many of those ideas were put to the test during St. Norbert College’s annual “Shark Attack” business pitch event held on campus Dec. 8.

First place and $1,000 went to St. Norbert College junior Brianne DeLain of Appleton, who pitched her product “RV Collect,” a rainwater collection and filtration system for campers and RVs.

Second place and $500 went to senior Connor Nelson of Naperville, Ill., and junior CJ West of Elmhurst, Ill., who pitched their idea for a UWB-based (ultra-wideband) element-proof tracking system called “Momentous Technologies.” It’s able to pinpoint location in real-time to within 20 centimeters or less.

Thirty-one students participated and 24 pitches were given to our panel of judges: Meredith Bieri, Chloe Pahl and Chris Schmitz...

Meet the mother-daughter duo behind Green Bay's edible cookie dough shop
NBC 26

GREEN BAY — One local desert shop is opting for Christmas cookie dough instead of Christmas cookies this holiday season. The Dough Shoppe is run by mother-daughter duo Shannon Heupel and Katelyn Naghtin. After being inspired by an edible cookie dough shop while traveling in New York, the two Green Bay natives decided to bring the idea back to their hometown.

Katelyn, who has had a life-long love of baking, says it was her dream to own her own business one day.

"Growing up as a kid, I always loved baking with my mom. She had her own separate business too at one point and I just loved helping her with that,” Naghtin said

Here are 17 (9 in the New North region) Wisconsin breweries and distilleries that opened, added new locations or moved in 2021
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

The theme for 2021's new breweries and distilleries in Wisconsin is familiar: recycling buildings.

A fire station, a livery, a mill, a home décor store, part of a Shopko and more were transformed into places where people can enjoy adult beverages. From Milwaukee to Manitowoc, Suamico to Sister Bay, there's a chance something new is brewing — or distilling — near you.

While some breweries and distilleries made their debut this year, others moved or added new locations...
