The New North: Wisconsinites encouraged to submit challenges to Federal broadband map by January 13, 2023
WIS POLITICS

NEW NORTH -
The Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access identified that the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) unveiled the “pre-production draft” of the new national broadband map. This new map is the current federal map that identifies where broadband is in place and what internet service providers cover those locations.

The new map is the most granular and up-to-date federal map of where broadband is, and is not, available across the country. The FCC’s new broadband maps will be used to determine the allocation of Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) funds that Wisconsin will receive to build broadband infrastructure...

Oshkosh Corp. lands $543 million contract for additional Joint Light Tactical Vehicles
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

Oshkosh Corp. announced Friday that its defense division received a $543 million order to produce additional Joint Light Tactical Vehicles for the U.S. Defense Department.

The order includes JLTVs for the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force, Navy, National Guard and for export to Slovenia. The trucks, a speedy, armored vehicle for transporting troops and equipment, will be built in Oshkosh, the company said.

The order comes as the initial eight-year JLTV contract comes to an end. The military requested proposals from manufacturers in February and is expected to award a new contract early next year, one expected to be worth about $7 billion....

Forward looking -- Renard's Cheese to expand: A three-phased manufacturing facility expansion in Algoma to be completed by October 2025
THE BUSINESS NEWS

ALGOMA – Turning down nearly 6 million pounds of production in a year has a way of making a company realize it needs to expand.

That’s exactly the scenario that happened with Renard’s Cheese in Algoma/Sturgeon Bay.

“Our current facility (on County S in Algoma) can only handle about 3 million pounds of production per year,” Renard’s co-owner Ann Renard said. “We’d like to extend our capacity by 50%. Last year, we turned down 6 million pounds, and the year before that, about 4 million. We (have) frequently turned down opportunities for more work.”...

NEWMA announces findings of its annual Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Vitality Index study
INSIGHT PUBLICATIONS

The Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance announced its 13th annual Northeast Wisconsin Manufacturing Vitality Index study at its quarterly membership meeting at UW-Green Bay’s STEM Innovation Center Dec. 16.

Mike Kawleski, public affairs manager for Georgia-Pacific and chair of the Alliance’s Communications Taskforce, shared the results of the study, which serves as an indication of the strength and vitality of manufacturing employers in the New North.

“This year’s report finds that manufacturers' sales recovered from 2020, however supply chain constraints and lack of talent are strong concerns from companies in the region. The study found a record number of manufacturers planning on investing in modernization than any other year of the study,” Kawleski said...

KFIZ NEWS TALK

Missy Hughes, Secretary and CEO of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), visited Fond du Lac Tuesday 12/13 to promote “Shop Small Wisconsin” as well as tout the Build Back Main Street Program.

We’re here to celebrate “Shop Small Wisconsin.” Wisconsin is home to some amazing locally owned businesses that we need to support year-round.

We all know that the holiday season can be a critical time for our main street businesses. In November Gov. Evers declared this to be “Shop Small Wisconsin” season to encourage everyone to consider ways to support local businesses as they celebrate the holidays with family and friends.

Holiday shopping is also a great reason for me to get out and visit some of the more than 7,700 Main Street Bounceback Grant program recipients and see how these amazing businesses are adding life to our downtowns and commercial corridors...
