Broadband update: Wisconsinites encouraged to submit challenges to Federal broadband map by January 13, 2023

The Governor’s Task Force on Broadband Access identified that the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) unveiled the “pre-production draft” of the new national broadband map. This new map is the current federal map that identifies where broadband is in place and what internet service providers cover those locations.

The new map is the most granular and up-to-date federal map of where broadband is, and is not, available across the country. The FCC’s new broadband maps will be used to determine the allocation of Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) funds that Wisconsin will receive to build broadband infrastructure...

Progress update on North Town development
SHEBOYGAN SUN

SHEBOYGAN - Significant progress has been made on infrastructure for the North Town development in the Town of Sheboygan, setting up construction of the first buildings in spring 2023. This includes a recently-approved Hilton Home2 Suites hotel.

North Town, which is a collaboration between Van Horn Development and the Town of Sheboygan, will combine residential, retail and commercial space over 99 acres of prime real estate located northeast of the I-43 and WIS-42 interchange in the Town of Sheboygan.

Since ground was broken in June, crews have been putting the infrastructure in place for the massive project, which is one of the biggest in Sheboygan County history...

Wisconsin sees 2 major hospital mergers finalized back to back

Millions of Wisconsin residents will be affected by two separate mergers of nonprofit hospital systems that were finalized earlier this month.

Gundersen Health System and Bellin Health completed a merger on Dec. 1. The next day, Advocate Aurora Health and Atrium Health did the same. Together, the mergers will impact about 8.5 million patients across several states.

Bellin and Gundersen will keep their respective names for the time being, as well as separate headquarters in Green Bay and La Crosse, while Advocate Aurora and Atrium will become "Advocate Health." Marshfield Clinic Health System and Essentia health also announced merger talks earlier this year...

Austin Straubel preparing for busy week with Packers game, Christmas travel

ASHWAUBENON - A Monday night Green Bay Packers game and the Christmas holiday will make for a busy week at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport.

"Normally, for Christmas week, we'd see travel pick up a few days before the holiday," airport director Marty Piette said in a news release. "But with a Monday night home Packers game, we're seeing strong air travel demand over the weekend, on Tuesday, as well as next Thursday and Friday. Anecdotally, we're hearing that some people are coming early to go to the game and then staying the week to be with family and friends for Christmas...

BLS data: Wisconsin adds 6,500 non-farm jobs in November, up 63,900 jobs over the year
STATE OF WISCONSIN DEPARTMENT OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT

MADISON – The Department of Workforce Development (DWD) today released the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) preliminary employment estimates for the month of November 2022, which showed Wisconsin has added 6,500 nonfarm and 5,800 total private sector jobs.

The data also showed that Wisconsin had an unemployment rate of 3.3% in November, unchanged from the prior month. The labor force participation rate was 64.9%. Nationwide for the month of November, the unemployment rate was 3.7% with a labor force participation rate of 62.1%...
