Gov. Evers, WEDC Announce $150,000 Grant for Computer Science Education Pilot Program
WISCONSIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORP (WEDC)

GREEN BAY — Gov. Tony Evers and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) Secretary and CEO Missy Hughes announced today a pilot program that aims to train teachers and bring computer science into all Wisconsin K-12 classrooms is getting a boost from a $150,000 grant from the WEDC.

Gov. Evers and Secretary Hughes made the announcement in the Howard-Suamico School District where students as young as kindergarteners showed off their work learning computer science principles.

“Technology is the pathway to innovation in everything from healthcare and education to manufacturing and commerce. It is the future of our state and our economy,” said Gov. Evers. “These funds will be an important resource to ensure our kids—even as young as kindergarten—have the opportunity to explore computer science and expand their skills, all while providing students with important outlets to get creative and grow academically.”...

GREEN BAY—Twenty-year-old Emilee Rysticken is the first-place winner of the NEW Launch Alliance HATCH event for her business The High Lift LLC, a coffee shop and student hangout in Two Rivers.

The regional pitch competition was held Dec. 2 in Green Bay and featured 12 finalist entrepreneurs.

Rysticken, who started her first business at age 17, purchased and is renovating an auto body shop in Two Rivers to create the coffee shop. Truck driver shortage leads to many signing up for their CDL

APPLETON — A record-setting number of jobs need to be filled in the trucking industry and it's likely going to get much worse in the next ten years. That's according to the American Trucking Industry which estimates there are currently 80-thousand trucking jobs available. Their most recent report released this fall indicates that the shortage will likely more than double in less than 10 years.

Today truck driving instructors at Fox Valley Technical College say their students are finding jobs immediately after finishing an eight-week CDL course. Instructors add that their students are making anywhere from $40,000 to $80,000 dollars a year at their entry-level jobs after receiving their license...
