Valley Transit hosts pop-up event seeking public input on proposed Transit Center development
VALLEY TRANSIT 

Valley Transit will be hosting a public pop-up event to showcase its proposed plan for the new Downtown Appleton Transit Center on Tuesday, Nov. 15 from 3 – 5:30 p.m. at the Transit Center, located at 100 E. Washington Street in Appleton (map).

Valley Transit and the City of Appleton are currently conducting a planning study which is exploring the redevelopment of the downtown Transit Center. The purpose of the pop-up event is to gather public feedback on the proposal.

“The Transit Center in downtown Appleton was built in 1989 and is in need of improvements to better serve our existing and future riders,” explained Valley Transit general manager Ron McDonald. “The current Transit Center serves as a central hub for fixed-route transit service in the Fox Cities, including Valley Transit and intercity buses that provide daily regional service. With these enhanced services, it is important to upgrade the facility to keep up with the needs of our community.”...

The Maritime Speaker Series offers an assortment of monthly programs – from historical topics to current issues affecting the Great Lakes and the economy that relies on them. The Door County Medical Center Maritime Speaker Series programs are held the first Thursday of each month, October through May, beginning at 7pm, on the second floor of the Museum in Sturgeon Bay, as well as online. There is no costs to attend; we suggest donation of a non-perishable food item, or if watching online, we ask you to donate to your local food pantry.

TOWN OF WRIGHTSTOWN -- One of the largest dairy-to-manure-to-renewable-natural-gas facilities in the country is now complete in Brown County.

Dynamic Renewables held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday at its new 16-unit anaerobic digestion facility on Mill Road in the town of Wrightstown.

BC Organics is expected to process more than 360 million gallons of manure per year. It provides area farms with a more sustainable manure management practice. On Thursday, owners offered tours of the facility to show how it all works...

Food from the heart: These young Green Bay East High School chefs prepare 25 meals for families in need

GREEN BAY ― East High's culinary classroom was filled with laughter, cheese, marinara sauce and, of course, more cheese, Thursday morning as students prepared 25 lasagnas from scratch for the school's families needing food support.

With the support of the Green Bay West Rotary Club and East High School alumnus Bruce Deadman, about 24 culinary students prepared noodles and, layer after layer, assembled the lasagnas.

The meals will be distributed through the school's Eats for East meal program. It provides grocery items and entire meals for unaccompanied youth, homeless students and families in need...

SHEBOYGAN – After much anticipation, the new Uptown Social community center is ready to serve the Sheboygan area. The official grand opening is on Tuesday, Nov. 15 at 10 a.m., but the center, dubbed “Sheboygan’s Hub for Active Seniors” opened for a special members-only preview this week.

The new facility, which was designed for adults 55 years and older but is open to all ages, has a café, game room, creative studio, activity room, indoor walking track, library, hospitality room and administrative space totaling 15,580 square feet.

The second phase of construction will include a gym, fitness/equipment room and additional restrooms totaling 5,653 square feet. Uptown Social also has 5,325 square feet of space set aside for future expansion, and 5,293 square feet of available tenant space...

President Rothman updates Regents on strategic planning, vision

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN SYSTEM

MADISON – University of Wisconsin System President Jay Rothman today provided Regents with an update on the system’s new strategic plan that is currently under development.

He reported that in consultation with the chancellors, a new major strategic objective focusing on the creation and dissemination of new knowledge – which ties closely to the university’s core research mission – has been added to the proposed plan since a draft plan was originally presented to Regents in September.

Rothman said the goal is to focus on UW System being a global leader in research, scholarship, and creative activity, as well as knowledge dissemination that benefits society.....

Kewaunee gets ready to kick off the holiday season with Christkindlmarkt, parade, county Christmas Stroll

KEWAUNEE - It's almost time for the holiday spirit to descend upon everyone, and the Kewaunee Area Chamber of Commerce will help people get ready when it holds the 16th annual Christkindlmarkt and Holiday Parade of Lights next weekend.

Also getting the holiday gift-shopping season started across the county is another annual happening, the two-weekend Kewaunee County Christmas Stroll, a joint effort presented by the Kewaunee, Algoma and Luxemburg chambers of commerce that starts the same weekend as Christkindlmarkt.

Christkindlmarkt is an old-fashioned, German-style Christmas market that's being offered from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, at Lakehaven Hall, 96 Ellis St., in downtown Kewaunee. Gov. Evers Honors Wisconsin’s Veterans on Veterans Day

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today recognized and celebrated Veterans Day with a video message honoring veterans, thanking them for their service to the country, and reaffirming his commitment to supporting veterans and their loved ones.

Earlier this year, Gov. Evers delivered on his promise to Wisconsin veterans and created the Blue Ribbon Commission on Veteran Opportunity, as announced in his 2022 State of the State address. The Commission was tasked with developing comprehensive, long-term recommendations to help address the challenges facing Wisconsin’s more than 300,000 veterans.
