Bug Tussel sinks new fiber optic roots into rural Wisconsin every day. Here's how it spread to 15 counties, so far
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

GREEN BAY - A funny thing happened on Steve Schneider’s way to retirement: He says he found “the secret sauce” for rural broadband expansion.

In the early 2000s, at Schneider's home in the Kellnersville area of Manitowoc County, an internet service provider ran fiber optic cable close to the family farm. Schneider asked about acquiring service for their address, but says he was told he couldn't get it — an refrain many rural Wisconsinites are familiar with.

He opted to take matters into his own hands, a decision made easier thanks to a decade in the telecommunications industry. Schneider knew whom to contact, the necessary paperwork to fill out to establish a service and more...

Wisconsin veterans Kevin Laluzerne and Adam Nierenberger to be honored with life-changing gift this Veterans Day through Baths for the Brave
TUNDRALAND

KAUKAUNA – Tundraland Home Improvements, a LEAF Home company based in Wisconsin specializing in baths, walk-in showers and decks, is changing the lives of two deserving veterans in Wisconsin by giving them the gift of a walk-in shower with its annual Baths for the Brave program. The showers will be installed at both homes on Thursday, November 10, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., just in time for Veterans Day.

“You don’t realize the importance of having an accessible shower until you don’t have one,” explained Paul Lukowski, President of Tundraland Home Improvements. “We can’t think of a better gift to give those who already gave so much for our country than to provide them with an accessible shower that they can use for years to come. It’s just one small way we can say thank you for all they’ve done.”.

We Energies parent used a hydrogen-natural gas mix to produce power. How this unique experiment could help reduce future carbon emissions.
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

A recently completed test of burning a hydrogen-natural gas blend to produce electricity could move WEC Energy Group one step closer to its 2050 goal of carbon-neutral power generation.

Last month, the utility experimented with mixes of up to 25% hydrogen using one of the engines at its Upper Michigan Energy Resources subsidiary. The engines went into service in 2019 as a replacement for the now closed, coal-powered Presque Isle power plant...

Green Bay high school students build affordable home for family
WFRV

GREEN BAY – A new home being built in Green Bay right now will be completely built by high school students. In the end, the new home does a lot more than just teach students valuable skills.

The home is under construction off Fourth Street in Green Bay’s Tank neighborhood. The contractors are all still in high school.

“It’s a work-based learning experience, so the students are able to learn real-life job experiences, hands-on, for two or three hours a day,” said instructor Brian Frerk....

MANITOWOC HERALD TIMES REPORTER

MANITOWOC - More than 30 downtown Manitowoc storefront windows will be “aluminized” this holiday season when “Evergleams on Eighth” sparkles from Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 23) through the first weekend after the New Year.

More than 40 different sizes, styles and colors of vintage aluminum Christmas trees will return home to the city where they were first manufactured for their Christmas debut in 1959 — more than 60 years ago.

Several collectors will be sharing their Evergleam and Evergreen trees. They are avid collectors of all things Evergleam, the brand name used by Aluminum Specialty Company. Their combined collections number more than 300 aluminum trees, including some very seldom seen and rare varieties. Numerous color wheels and rotating tree stands, also commonly used with the trees during the early 1960s when the trees were most popular, are also included in the display...

Denny Lamers of McMahon Associates leaves legacy of leading, racing, helping others
APPLETON POST-CRESCENT

Denny Lamers never wanted his employees at McMahon Associates LLC to worry. If someone was going through a difficult time, he made sure their paycheck still came through and their health insurance was covered. If an employee needed to step away from work for a family reason, Lamers assured them that, not only could they take time off, but they should.

Once, when an employee was recuperating at home after an operation, Lamers called their caretaker every day to see how he could help, according to Vic Lutz, CFO at McMahon, a Fox Crossing engineering and architecture business.

"That just reveals his heart," Lutz said....

Wisconsin spent more of its pandemic relief money on business support than any other state
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL

Wisconsin devoted a higher share of its federal pandemic relief funding to businesses and workers than any other state, according to a study by the Center on Budget Relief and Policy Priorities.

More than half of Wisconsin's federal American Rescue Plan funds, $1.1 billion, went toward economic development initiatives, including $642 million in grants to businesses and $130 million for workforce development.

The Evers administration found that small businesses — especially those that served as community gathering spots — were struggling during the pandemic, said Missy Hughes, secretary and chief executive officer of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp...
