THE BUSINESS NEWS

NORTHEAST WISCONSIN – Help wanted ads on nearly every corner.

Out-of-stock signs on numerous grocery and retail store shelves.

Supply chain disruptions across all sectors felt by companies throughout the country.

Quick and steep interest rate increases by the Federal Reserve.

You don’t have to be a financial guru to know something is happening – rising interest rates, market dips and increasing inflation.

Michael Hochholzer, chief investment officer and EVP with Associated Bank Private Wealth, said though things are concerning right now, it isn’t as bad as it’s being made out to be...

Why a national bank is lauding Oneida Nation's financial moves and aims to grow investment in Indian Country
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

ONEIDA - A national bank is seeking to make tribal economies more transparent for potential investors and is commending the Oneida Nation in Wisconsin for its financial moves.

“Tribal communities are economically invisible,” said Dawson Her Many Horses, head of Native American banking for Wells Fargo & Company.

He said there’s not much economic data available about tribal businesses that potential investors would use to justify their investments.

Despite this, in rural Wisconsin counties where tribal reservations are located, tribes are one of the top, if not the top, employers in the county employing both Native and non-Native workers...

Seymour takes tech ed up a notch
PRESS TIMES

A newly constructed center for auto repair training at Seymour Community High School not only benefits the students making use of the facility, but has also helped the school expand and refine other technical education space in the high school.

Senior Matt Krahn is currently an apprentice mechanic at Broadway Automotive in Green Bay and said the new 5,000-square-foot shop enables him to learn more about car repair.

“Now we can have more vehicles in the shop, so it creates a lot more learning opportunities,” he said. “A lot of things so far I have had some experience with, but it’s nice to be able to do more than I have been doing on my own.”...

A place, job for everyone: Hiring those with disabilities can contribute to a company's overall success
THE BUSINESS NEWS

OSHKOSH – The Center for Disease Control estimates there are approximately 61 million adults (1 in 4) in the United States who live with a disability of one kind or another.

And if children and young adults were included in that count, the number would be considerably higher.

Supporting these individuals as they find their place in the workplace, Rose White, community support supervisor at Lakeland Care, – a Fond du Lac nonprofit that provides long-term care services and supports to eligible frail elders and individuals with disabilities through Wisconsin’s Family Care program – is not only the right thing to do but can also be beneficial to a company’s overall success....

Celebrating 50 years of the Clean Water Act, NEW Water lauded as a leader, innovator
PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY – Local, state and national leaders, along with the leadership of NEW Water in Green Bay celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Federal Clean Water Act and the 90th anniversary of NEW Water at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay’s STEM center on Tuesday, Oct. 18.

Chancellor Michael Alexander reminded the audience that UW-Green Bay was the initial “ECO-U,” saying it is fitting that the institution has played a major role in maintaining the bay and Fox River’s water quality over the years.

The Clean Water Act’s objective was to maintain the physical, biological and chemical integrity of the nation’s surface waters using a water-quality-based approach, along with a permit system for point source pollution, Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology John Katers told the group.
“Since the passage, the level of pollution in the United States has decreased dramatically, and we’ve seen that right here in our own backyard where the Fox River and the bay have become an asset instead of a liability due to water quality at that time,” he said...

400th barn quilt unveiled in Shawano County
WLUK

SHAWANO COUNTY -- Shawano County celebrated its 400th barn quilt on Saturday.

A barn quilt is a painting on the outside of a barn often featuring bright colors with a number of different designs.

The Shawano County barn quilt project started 12 years ago with the goal of bringing more tourists to the county.

"It’s a milestone that when I started this project I never in my wildest dreams we'd have 400 barn quilts,” said Jim Leuenberger, the coordinator of the project. “When I did an interview early in 2011 when whoever was interviewing me asked how many quilts are you going to have? I said my favorite number is 44 so I hope we at least have 44."...
