NEW Manufacturing Alliance announces seventh annual Get Real Math video premiere

GREEN BAY - Pete Petoniak from WLUK will be the emcee for the Northeast WisconsiN (NEW) Manufacturing Alliance’s 7th annual Get Real Math & Science Video Premiere at the Meyer Theatre in Green Bay on October 5 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. This serves as the debut of the newest installment of the Alliance's Get Real Math and Get Real Science videos.

Ann Franz, executive director for the organization stated, "The concept of the videos came from a math teacher participating in the Alliance's K-12 task force." Franz added, "She was looking for a tool to show students how the curriculum she was teaching is used in the real world." In 2014, five videos were created to answer the questions students often ask, "When am I ever going to use this in the real world?" The free educational videos include a teacher lesson plan and spotlight real-world problems at manufacturing companies...

First, the Sturgeon Bay Common Council will act on amending the city’s comprehensive plan to change the future land use designation for three parcels along State Highway 42/57 from agricultural/rural to regional commercial. St. Norbert considers community housing to replace former Pennings High building

De Pere - A former public and private high school now owned by St. Norbert College may be torn down, with housing for community members being considered for the site.

Currently the Pennings Activity Center, the building at the corner of 3rd and Reid Streets was built as West De Pere’s Nicolet High School in 1923. It became Abbot Pennings High School in 1959. The high school closed in 1990 -- with the merger of Pennings, Premontre and St. Joseph's Academy into Notre Dame Academy -- and the building was transferred to the college.

The building currently houses a variety of campus offices...

Waupaca County introduces workforce ride system to combat transportation issues

WAUPACA COUNTY - Unstable transportation is one of the biggest issues for employee retention in rural Wisconsin.

In an effort to change that, a new program serving Waupaca and Outagamie counties will provide round-the-clock services to arrange a ride to work.

"We know, especially in this area here, that there are more individuals who want to work than have access to a vehicle or ride," said Department of Workforce Development Secretary-Designee Amy Pechacek.

Pechacek says public transportation in rural Wisconsin is not as strong as urban areas...

Court Appointed Special Advocates gathered to congratulate longtime volunteer Lou Shea, who has been an advocate for children for 25 years.

Former Packer John Kuhn was among the dozens of supporters who gathered to bid on vacation trips, sports jerseys, and a state-of-the-art barbeque grill to raise money so that every child currently under the protection of the court has their needs met in an overburdened child welfare system...

NASA astronaut inspires Green Bay students to shoot for the stars

GREEN BAY - Some Green Bay students are dreaming of the stars after visiting with a special guest Monday morning.

NASA Astronaut Mark Vande Hei spoke with students at McAuliffe Elementary School about his experiences on the International Space Station.

Back in January, Vande Hei participated in a live virtual feed with the students from the ISS.

After 355 days in space, Vende Hei returned to Earth, setting the record for the longest single spaceflight in history by an American.

A NASA legend is headed to Oshkosh to discuss her legacy while teaching about spaceflight

MILWAUKEE - Experimental Aircraft Association Museum, based in Oshkosh, is getting set to welcome the first female commander of a space mission.

The visit is taking place to honor EAA's annual Space Day event, taking place Saturday, Oct. 8. Space Day is part of a global celebration of World Space Week, and this year's theme recognizes sustainability in space.

GREEN BAY - The NEW Zoo & Adventure Park is once again partnering with North Shore Bank to host Zoo Boo throughout the month of October.
