Ripon College names first woman to lead college in 170-year history

RIPON -- When Zach Massitte steps down as Ripon College president at the end of the fall semester, he’ll be succeeded by the first woman to lead the college in its 170-year history.

Monday, the Ripon College Board of Trustees named Andrea Young, Ph.D., as interim president, effective in January, 2022.

Young is currently the college’s vice president for finance and director of strategic initiatives, overseeing the school’s business, financial and IT functions and acting as liaison with the board on matters of finance, investment, construction contracts and audits. She was previously Ripon College’s acting dean of faculty and was an associate professor of mathematics with tenure. Ripon College is exploring a partnership with Marian University in Fond du Lac. The board of trustees says Young is spearheading that study....

Grant aims to bolster diversity in nursing students

GREEN BAY — A new grant will help Northeast Wisconsin Technical College grow diversity in the ranks of nursing students it trains.

That's important to people like Elisa Lopez who is studying to be a licensed practical nurse. She’s seen the difference diversity can make first hand on trips to the hospital with her mother.

“Every time I go with her to the hospital there are no Hispanic people that speak Spanish to help her,” she said. “It’s very important to have people that speak the same language as you to feel comfortable, you know? To feel supported.”...

Annually Door County Manufacturers open their doors and offer tours to students and the general public. The tours are conducted on Manufacturing Day, a day set aside nationally to learn more about the manufacturing industry. This year the event will be held on Friday, October 1st. This year, 11 manufacturing companies throughout the peninsula will be hosting FREE tours that are open to the public. FOX CROSSING -- The housing market is still hot in Northeast Wisconsin.

One relator says things look different for first time home buyers in the Fox Valley.
“It's been exciting, fast," said Alyssa Hopfensperger with husband Eric.

The couple found a new home for their growing family, and their past home sold in no time. “Twenty-two showings, six offers in three days," said Eric Hopfensperger.

“I think it is still very hot and very competitive in prices under 300,000," said Stacey Hennessey, Broker Associate with Century 21 Affiliated.
