A&H Beauty Vanity opens in Oshkosh to cater to needs of city's unmet market
OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN

OSHKOSH – Every time Lovely Anderson traveled to Chicago to visit family, she would stock up on "the essentials" — hair supplies for her five daughters — knowing they were difficult to find in the Oshkosh area.

That was in 2017. In 2021, Anderson is hoping to eliminate that problem for parents like her with A&H Beauty Vanity, a Black-owned beauty supply store in Oshkosh that opened Aug. 23 in Suite 18/19 located inside Sola Salon, 1830 Jackson St...

Peshtigo farming entrepreneurs go from cherry trees to lavender fields
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

PESHTIGO -- In 2016, Ann and Craig Schueller bought a 175-acre farm in Peshtigo that had been in Craig’s family for more than 100 years. But they weren’t interested in revisiting the farm’s history as a dairy producer; they wanted to do something unique.

“I was in the first E-seed (entrepreneurial) class for veterans at Fox Valley Tech,” Ann said. “We had just purchased the land and were pretty sure we would do something with it, but weren’t sure what. Our first idea was to do a cherry orchard.”...

House of Sweets brings Chicago-style candy north
PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY – Tatiana Vaughn has fond childhood memories of every other home in her neighborhood having small candy shops with cheap treats.

Vaughn said a kid could enter with $5 and emerge with armfuls of candy.

This summer, the now 30-year-old held the grand opening of her own Chicago-style candy shop located at 420 S. Military Ave.

“I kind of wanted to bring some of that, what I grew up on, where I consider home (to Green Bay),” Vaughn said. “And I know a lot of people are migrating from that area here, so kind of just like bringing things that we grew up on here so it kind of feels like home in a sense.”..

Tom Still: Spate of investment, exit news for Wisconsin companies is encouraging
WISCONSIN STATE JOURNAL

The power of deal-sharing and accelerating interest from out-of-state investors has been front and center this summer in Wisconsin, with many young companies announcing new venture capital rounds or acquisitions by larger companies.

For state policymakers who are considering priming the pump to attract even more dollars into Wisconsin, it should signal that their efforts won’t drill a dry well.

In the past few months alone, nearly $100 million has been raised collectively by young companies such as Bright Cellars, Pyran, Part Analytics, Fork Farms, Roddy Medical, Rentable, Frontdesk, Wellbe, OnLume, Veda and more. More established companies such as SHINE Medical Technologies and NorthStar Medical Technologies raised nearly twice that much in later-stage investments or targeted federal grants...
