OCONTO FALLS – Land in the town of Morgan is under consideration for a solar energy production facility.

NextEra Energy Resources says it's “in the initial stages of gauging whether this community is right for a renewable energy project,” spokesperson Sara Cassidy said in an email Friday to the Oconto County Reporter.

UW-Green Bay closes 90-year-old golf course, making way for student recreation center

GREEN BAY -- Shorewood Golf Course has closed after 90 years in Green Bay. And the news could mean big changes for the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and the surrounding community.

The university announced this summer that it would close the 9-hole course, which is nestled into a corner of its Brown County campus. The area will become a student recreation and engagement center.

Oneida Integrated Food Systems recognized by United Nations

ONEIDA -- The Oneida Nation has recently received international recognition. Their Integrated Food Systems, which includes an aquaponics facility, an emergency food pantry, and a food distribution center, all play into their efforts to hold on to tradition. Plus, lay the groundwork for their future.

“As indigenous people, we know that our foods are so much more than just meeting our immediate nutritional needs,” Vanessa Miller, an Oneida woman who works in the Food and Agricultural division of the Oneida Nation Environmental Health and Safety. “It really connects us back to our original ways, our community, our land bases, our identity. We know that those all have positive impacts on our sense of self and by pathway direct and immediate positive impacts on our overall health and wellness.”..
