The Manufacturing First Expo & Conference, Wisconsin’s largest manufacturing conference, is set for Oct. 26 from 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at Resch Expo in Green Bay. The annual event capping National Manufacturing Month provides Wisconsin manufacturers with hands-on opportunities to grow their businesses, including opportunities to network, showcase industry advances, highlight successes and announce their latest developments.

Due to the popularity of Manufacturing First, this year’s event is growing into a larger location: Green Bay’s Resch Expo. This year’s keynote speaker will be The Sileo Group CEO John Sileo, an international cybersecurity expert and the author of four books who has learned from the painful experience of losing his multi-million-dollar software company over cybercrimes he didn’t commit. He will share what he has learned using humor, personal stories and blockbuster films...

Lawton Standard Co. adds Minnesota company in expansion

DE PERE -- A Minnesota company has joined a company in De Pere,

The Lawton Standard Co. recently added Northern Iron & Machine (NIM) of St. Paul as part of its expansion strategy.

NIM produces and machines cast gray, ductile, and austempered iron castings up to 250 pounds. This adds to The Lawton Standard Co.'s offerings by both size and method.

This will benefit both Lawton and NIM customers with expanded options...

Oshkosh approves $28.9 million TIF for Sawdust District area that includes future Mill on Main development
OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN

OSHKOSH – Plans are moving forward for a highly anticipated Sawdust District development.

The Oshkosh Common Council this week approved the creation of Tax Increment District No. 43, a 13.45-acre area along the Fox River in the Sawdust District that is mostly former industrial property. The district allows the developer of the 291-unit, three-building Mill on Main mixed-use development to access funding to offset some of the costs of the project.

"I'm excited to see this project move along," Mayor Lori Palmeri said at Tuesday's council meeting...

Developers unveil plans for redesign of City Center Plaza in downtown Appleton

APPLETON – Developers have unveiled plans for a complete redesign of the City Center Plaza in downtown Appleton. Dark Horse Development has created a website with initial designs for the building in the 100-block of West College Avenue–and will be renamed Fox Common.

It currently houses the Building for Kids Museum and several small retailers. Dark Horse’s website says Fox Common will be a hub for health and wellness–with Mosaic Family Health already signed on as a tenant. There will also be additional office space, retail and dining...

Brown County working on $27.2 million loan to expand high-speed internet access

BROWN COUNTY -- Brown County officials are negotiating a $27.2 million loan that they hope will bring high speed service to almost all residents.

The county is working with Bug Tussel, a Green Bay-based internet provider, which specializes in bringing services to rural communities.

Bug Tussel has worked similar deals with 12 other counties, including Kewaunee, Menominee, Oconto, Calumet, Fond du Lac and Waushara. It is eyeing deals with 18 other counties, according to co-founder Scott Schneider...

State, local leaders tour Broadway District businesses in Green Bay supported by grant funds

GREEN BAY -- Several state and local leaders participated in a walking tour of Broadway District businesses in Green Bay that received pandemic relief funding.

Wisconsin Department of Administration (DOA) Secretary-designee, Kathy Blumenfeld, met with Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich and On Broadway Inc. leaders to tour two local businesses and meet the owners of Copper State Brewery and Voyageurs Bakehouse.

“The pandemic relief in most cases came at the perfect time so that they could keep their staff, continue to pay their staff, and invest in new innovation. We’ve heard story after story, success stories, struggles, but really I think Wisconsinites have that Midwestern work ethic and tenacity and perseverance to power through the struggles,” Blumenfeld said...

WPS and We Energies award $150,000 to public safety agencies across Wisconsin

Wisconsin Public Service and We Energies are teaming up to support public safety agencies across Wisconsin, including several northeast Wisconsin agencies.

The companies' charitable foundations are awarding $150,000 to over 75 agencies as part of their Rewarding Responders Grant program. Two departments in our area attended the unveiling ceremony Thursday.

"This grant allows our department to operate with the most effective tools possible, as well as work efficiently with We Energies in the field,” said Shane Krueger, deputy chief of Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue. The department plans to use the funds to purchase a multi-gas detector...

Packers Foundation gives more than $1.5 million to Wisconsin community, sports and recreation organizations

GREEN BAY – Green Bay Packers Foundation recently awarded more than $1.5 million in grants for organizations in Wisconsin.

The foundation gave $1.35 million to seven nonprofit organizations in Brown, Dane and Milwaukee counties, and $200,000 for athletic field replacement in Appleton.

"These funds will help care for our most vulnerable neighbors and ensure kids, families and individuals in our communities have what they need to learn, grow and thrive," said Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy....

Lakeland University debuts new residence halls
SHEBOYGAN SUN

PLYMOUTH – Lakeland University held a Re-Dedication Ceremony and Open House for two new residence halls on its main campus Thursday afternoon. The halls are part of the largest single investment in the school’s 160-year history.

The twin four-story buildings will house 400 students, and are replacing the previous Grossheusch and Muehlmeier Halls, which held 291 students before being torn down in 2021.

The new halls, which will retain the names Grossheusch and Muehlmeier, are equipped with an impressive array of amenities, including spacious lounge areas and study rooms for each floor, kitchenettes and vending areas...
