NEW NORTH – New North Inc., the regional marketing and economic development corporation serving the 18 counties of Northeast Wisconsin, announced today that applications now are open for a fourth round of gener8tor Upskilling. The highly successful online career training program focuses on helping under- and unemployed individuals build digital skills for in-demand occupations.

Applications are now being accepted for the IT Administration training cohort. The 10-week program is free and will prioritize people living in Northeast Wisconsin. It is designed for individuals ready to learn digital skills in order to apply for in-demand jobs in the region.....

GREEN BAY -- To highlight the growing need for talent in the Greater Green Bay area, the Greater Green Bay Chamber is excited to recognize Wednesday, Sept. 8, as Talent Day, presented by Green Bay Packaging, Vye, University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, St. Norbert College and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC).

The intent of Talent Day is to raise awareness of the predicaments that area employers have been facing with talent attraction and retention and bring the community together to have a conversation on how to solve this problem. McMahon designs pair of residence halls for Lakeland University
WIS BUSINESS

PLYMOUTH – McMahon, a full-service, professional engineering and architectural firm, is partnering with Lakeland University to build two new residence halls on its campus in Plymouth, Wisconsin.

McMahon’s work on the $26 million project consists of demolishing two existing outdated residence halls and constructing two new, identical halls, a water tower and related infrastructure. When complete, the halls will provide the institution with 400 beds dedicated to freshman and sophomore housing. The buildings will mimic the timeless design of the historic campus....

UW-Green Bay amplifies Rising Phoenix Program with support from local corporate sponsor
UW-GREEN BAY

GREEN BAY -- The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay’s Rising Phoenix Program announces  new partnership with CONNECT, powered by American Family Insurance, to expand Rising Phoenix with the Green Bay Area Public School District, giving underserved and underrepresented students access to early college credit. CONNECT will provide funds to support students in the program over the next two years, increasing total program enrollment to 126 students for fall 2021.

UW-Green Bay, CONNECT and American Family Insurance are aligned in their missions to “inspire, protect and restore dreams by creating more equitable communities.”..

New award for champions of healthcare going to Door County Medical Center's Stephens

After spending the last year and a half and counting helping navigate Door County through the pandemic, Door County Medical Center CEO Brian Stephens will be recognized this year at the annual Angel Ball as the Angel Award recipient. The chair of the event, Lynda Szczepanik, thought Stephens was the perfect fit for the inaugural award.

The event put on by the DCMC Auxiliary has been going on for sixty years, but this year will be the first that there is an Angel Award honoree. Szczepanik says that she hopes the award becomes an annual one and that she feels like giving out an award will add an exciting element to the event. Stephens said he would humbly accept the award as a way of recognizing caregivers, support staff, and all of the wonderful people at the Door County Medical Center...

Northeast Wisconsin non-profit helps connect refugees with employers
WBAY

GREEN BAY -- After a meeting at Fort McCoy Wednesday, U.S. Senator Ron Johnson, R-Wisconsin, says up to 10,000 refugees could be coming to Wisconsin.

Some of them may settle in northeast Wisconsin and there’s a non-profit preparing to help them get jobs by teaching them soft skills.

Forward Service Corporation is stepping in to help employers, including those in manufacturing, find employees.

“We’ve had more employers interested in sort of how they can get involved with hiring refugees, which has been good to see,” Emily Askri, assistant program coordinator at Forward Service Corporation, said....
