GREEN BAY – A café in Green Bay is bringing Lao culture to Wisconsin and serving up sweet and savory dishes in the community.

According to a post on SaBaiDee Café’s Facebook, the grand opening was held in June. Owners Jenny and Ken Thammavong say the restaurant’s name has a meaning some might not know – in Laotian, SaBaiDee means “Hello.”

Local 5 was able to ask the couple why they decided to start a business in Green Bay. They explained it has always been a dream.

“We love to cook and entertain our friends and family. My husband has a passion for home cooking and has always wanted to own his own restaurant since growing up,” explained Jenny...

Cockloft Vintage opens on Broadway in Green Bay
PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY – There’s an unfamiliar term making a big buzz in the Broadway District.

A new business recently moved into a vacant space in the Broadway corridor and its name is making people ask questions.

What is a cockloft?

“I wanted something different, yet old school,” Owner Tina Kelly said.
Cockloft Vintage opened its doors just last month and features hand-selected vintage goods and clothing. Kelly said the retail shop promotes preloved, sustainable fashion with a story.

She said the term “cockloft” is an old English term meaning attic or small loft below the roof – making it a perfect name for the shop.

“Cockloft is factual and intriguing,” Kelly said. “People tell me constantly – ‘we love it. We see it and we just can’t look away.’”..

It’s the kind of store she’d want to visit. “I love thrift shopping,” Yedyanak said. I’m a shopper who loves low-cost clothing.”

All of the items are priced between $1.50 to $8, the latter being for name brand items.

Green Bay man helps people with disabilities find independence, one day at a time
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

GREEN BAY -- In his 13 years as a social worker and care manager for the disabled population, Greg Maloney of Green Bay saw the need for a program that would develop higher functioning adults.

He had worked with various groups, but felt that his strength was in helping those with mental illness to find community employment and move out on their own. As he developed programs and saw results, he also felt frustration that he didn’t have the flexibility to do more.

“I thought about starting a business for about six years,” Maloney said. “When I met with a disabled adult for the first time, I would gather details on where they were currently in their life. After that, I tried to create a plan that would help them create their own desires in life.”...

SHEBOYGAN - Sunglasses-wearing flamingos, ladybugs, dancing ballerinas and dogs are just a few of the patterns featured on dresses sisters Mary Leonhard and Nancy Zvitkovits have helped transform from pillowcases.

First starting the project in spring 2021, they initially had a goal of making 100 dresses. Then, they increased that goal to 200. To date, they’ve made nearly 400 dresses.

Leonhard and Zvitkovits make pillowcase dresses for Hope for Haiti’s Children, a Christian organization that works to support children in Haiti through different programs, like education access, youth leadership, medical care and crisis relief.

Zvitkovits said she was first introduced to pillowcase dresses through her church, St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, which was sponsoring a mission trip to Guatemala...
