Women’s Fund grants $100,000 this year to benefit child care efforts
DOOR COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

STURGEON BAY — The Women’s Fund of Door County is committed to granting $100,000 in 2022 to benefit childcare efforts in the county. The Women’s Fund is partnering with the United Way of Door County to support efforts that have been ongoing since 2020. 

Grants to the United Way include partial funding for the Child Care Community Coordinator position at the United Way for 2022, funding to support and build a network of home-based childcare providers, American Red Cross Babysitter Training and innovative partnership with local employers to increase affordability and access to childcare for area families. 

The Women’s Fund is also funding the Imagination Station at the Northern Door Children’s Center for the new 4-year-old kindergarten room...

Neenah Paper, SWM complete merger, announce new name for $3 billion business
APPLETON POST CRESCENT

APPLETON - Neenah Paper Inc. and Schweitzer-Mauduit International, Inc. have completed their merger and are now operating under the name Mativ Holdings Inc.

The two specialty paper manufacturers announced in March a plan to form a company with $3 billion in annual sales to customers in more than 100 countries. The newly-formed company on Monday touted its strong market share in growing categories like health care and wellness, protective and adhesive solutions, industrial solutions, packaging paper and specialty paper.

Neenah Inc. President and CEO Julie Schertell will lead Mativ while SWM CEO Dr. Jeff Kramer will take a role as a strategic advisor. Five SWM board members and four Neenah Inc. board members will make up the combined company's board of directors...

State program adding $9.5 million to fund Town of Sheboygan North Town development
SHEBOYGAN SUN

TOWN OF SHEBOYGAN—Sarah Godlewski, State Treasurer and Chair of the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands (BCPL), announced last week that the BCPL will be adding $9.5 million to financing the Town of Sheboygan's North Town development.

According to Town of Sheboygan Chairperson, Daniel Hein, the funding provided will help finance the public infrastructure required for the development including the design and construction of streets, sanitary sewer, water and stormwater management facilities.

"I want to express the Town’s sincere appreciation to the Board of Commissioners of Public Lands for approving this financing. It has made our North Town development possible,” Hein said in the news release...

Trucking firm Schneider National leads investment in Green Bay startup ChemDirect
WISCONSIN INNO

Transportation and logistics company Schneider National Inc. led a Series A funding round for online chemical marketplace startup ChemDirect, according to a recent announcement. Both companies are based in Green Bay.

The June 30 announcement did not disclose the terms of the deal, but an April report from PitchBook Data Inc. and the National Venture Capital Association showed ChemDirect raised $6.59 million at a $32 million post-money valuation. It was the third-largest venture capital deal in Wisconsin in the first quarter, according to the report.

That investment was a portion of the company's Series A round, ChemDirect founder and CEO Tyler Ellison said in an email. There were a total of around 15 investors in the now-closed round, he said...

Horicon Bank to merge with Grafton-based Cornerstone

HORICON—Horicon Bank and the Grafton-based Cornerstone Community Bank have announced plans to merge.

Horicon Bank is a full-service community bank with twenty locations in fifteen communities, including in the New North region. Cornerstone Community Bank is in three communities and has $250 million in assets.

Horicon Bank Chief Executive Officer Frederick F. Schwertfeger says the merger offers a strong partnership for both Cornerstone customers and the bank’s local communities. It also will enhance the future regional flagship bank branch at The Mayfair Collection in Wauwatosa, which is expected to open in 2023, he said.

College of Menominee Nation signs articulation agreement with Northeast Wisconsin Technical College
COLLEGE OF MENOMINEE NATION (CMN)

The College of Menominee Nation (CMN) and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College (NWTC) signed an articulation agreement this past month. The purpose of this agreement is to provide an easy transfer process for students from NWTC who wish to further their education to enter CMN’s Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary/Middle School Education.

Students from NWTC must successfully complete their associate degree in Early Childhood Education, meet the admission requirements from CMN, declare their major for the B.S. degree, and meet any other requirements outlined by the Teacher Education department. This agreement will take effect on August 1, 2022, just before the beginning of the academic year...

GREEN BAY - Two Rivers resident Salvador Galaviz first turned to Northeast Wisconsin Technical College for help learning English.

He graduated with a bilingual welding certificate in June, when NWTC asked if he'd be interested in a scholarship that would qualify him for an even better-paying, in-demand manufacturing job. The scholarship in industrial maintenance covers tuition, supplies and housing, and he's already thinking about how the support will help him and his wife get by until he completes his courses...

New Oshkosh homeless shelter to provide services year-round
WLUK

OSHKOSH -- The "Day By Day Warming Shelter" will provide services to between 50 and 65 people every night of the year.

Residents got a look at some renderings this evening during a "meet your new neighbors" event.

The shelter will be located at the corner of Broad Street and Ceape Avenue.

Day By Day's executive director Molly Yatso-Butz says homelessness is growing in Oshkosh, but programs added in the last two years have helped.
