High school students participate in entrepreneurial camp
NBC 26

DE PERE — About 125 high school students from across the state participated in this year's Wisconsin Business World Summer Camp.

The four-day, three-night camp was at capacity this year as students were challenged to innovate and lead as they create and run a business from the ground up.

Through dynamic speakers, manufacturing tours, and hands-on activities, students leave the camp with a better understanding of business principles, financial literacy, and the Wisconsin economy...

This De Pere mom made a special seasoning blend for her family, until her fans pushed her to sell it
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

DE PERE — "Spice up any meal" is the promise emblazoned on Brenda Crump's seasoning bottle.

Crump moved to De Pere from Chicago in 2009, but she didn't market "Cuz'n Bren-Bren Seasoning" until a few months ago.

A single mother of four, she says she is not a chef and has no restaurant experience, but she has always cooked for others.

For some time, Crump said, she cooked a variety of dinners at her house — such as baked or fried chicken, mac n' cheese or "other southern foods" — and sold them to people that didn't feel like cooking or going to a restaurant...

'Be fearless': Appleton man takes huge risk but finds happiness
SPECTRUM NEWS 1

APPLETON — Beu Vang was certain he was following the right path.

Work hard, get promoted, put in the overtime and make good money to support your family. All was going well until the day he looked down and realized the trail he was on was not the yellow brick road and Oz was in the complete opposite direction.

“I had gone all in on the things that didn’t matter,’’ said Vang. “Valuing my self-worth on my job and how much money I made. I wasn’t happy with where I was in life.’’

But he felt trapped. He was well into his 40s, he had a wife and family to support, and bills to pay. What was he going to do, quit his job and go back to school in order to find something that would make him happy?...

De Pere man, with help from his bedbug-sniffing dog Chester, finds success; now he looks to grow business concept
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

In his eight years since starting Sandberg K9 Solutions, Jon Sandberg of De Pere has built a successful business. But, as a solo entrepreneur, he knows that there are limitations to growth that he is trying to overcome.

It all began when Sandberg was completing a master’s degree and undecided what his next career move would be. A friend, who had just returned from a conference in Madison that focused on current health topics, handed him a pamphlet on the use of dogs to sniff out bedbugs.

“From my studies, I knew how to do research, and because the common denominator in my life had always been dogs, I started looking into it and realized that there was a large demand in this country,” he said...

New Luxemburg restaurant to be village's only coffee and ice cream shop
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

LUXEMBURG - Ashley Holda's dream was to open her own coffee shop. Now she's doing just that, and quite a bit more.

This Friday, July 1, Holda is opening Luxemburg's only coffee shop and homemade ice cream parlor with The Ahnapee Creamery & Cafe, which also will serve breakfasts and lunches.

Holda had long thought about starting up her own cafe. The dream began to take a more physical shape a couple years ago when she and her husband, Ross, bought a small camper with the idea of converting it into mobile coffee shop, but that never got off the ground...

This De Pere couple loves to inspire others through phrases on their clothing brand
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

DE PERE - Brittany Bell and her husband Chris started their apparel business almost five years ago with one thing in mind: to inspire and help others.

God’s Purpose Apparel sells shirts — both short- and long-sleeved — and hoodies, with sizes for adults and children.

Every shirt comes emblazoned with a phrase or word meant to help the wearer feel better, such as "Faith over fear," "Believe more & have peace," and "Bro, be kind."

Bell said they were motivated by “the ability to really inspire people through whatever situation they are going through.”...

New card collector store opens on Military Avenue in Green Bay
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

GREEN BAY - Green Bay City Cards, 508 S. Military Ave., opened in April to a crowd of 70 people lined up outside.

The store, which sells and buys sports and gaming cards, was opened by Mark Meyer. Meyer owned a similar shop on Oneida Street from 1991 until 2007 before closing due to lack of business.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Meyer said Green Bay is a much better market for selling cards, especially since so many people picked up hobbies, like card collecting, during quarantine.

"With the pandemic, that got a lot of new collectors into it," Meyer said. "So it's a really strong market right now."...
