Thomas shifts focus of Railyard District studio
PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY - Local entrepreneur and photographer Audrey Thomas said the Greater Green Bay area has never been in short supply of talent, but spaces and opportunities to put that creativity into action, collaborate with others and share their workspace with the public, she said, is a different story.

“There are many people in the community currently working to provide these opportunities with their own unique approaches, all with a collective mission to provide artists with access and options at affordable rates,” she said.

Thomas can now add her recently-refocused space – Evolve: Rental Space for Creatives – located in the Railyard District, as one of them.

Known to many throughout the community for her pictures, Thomas Photography opened one of the area’s only exclusive dog photography studios, a focus shift from her classic photography, just last year.

“I think creative people are always subconsciously looking for a challenge and ways to grow,” Thomas said. “So eventually, when I felt I had photographed people in all the ways I could, I was excited to switch things up and exclusively photograph dogs. That led me to doing some of the most fun, challenging and fulfilling work thus far.”

Nevertheless, after photographing about 150 dogs in the studio, she said she felt another itch for change and looked at things from a different angle...

Production company owner invests in hometown with two entertainment venues in Manitowoc
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

In seventh grade, Brennan Seehafer of Manitowoc started a production company and brought a major show to the city's Capitol Civic Centre. He spent hours planning, securing sponsors and selling program ads to offset the risk. The show was a success.

“I always enjoyed planning and management in the music industry,” he said. “It was exciting to plan and host events. And, I still got my schoolwork done.”

He formed Brennan Seehafer Productions in 2007, and continued to plan shows after moving to Nashville after graduation. While there, he was an apprentice for the Country Music Association and toured with Luke Bryan for a few years. He also continued to grow his production company and produces and promotes 40 to 50 shows a year.

The one change is his home base is back in Manitowoc...

Lumberjack Johnny’s: Where nostalgia meets rustic
PRESS TIMES

ASHWAUBENON - A new entertainment venue on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of Oneida Street in Ashwaubenon offers guests more than your average watering hole.

“We really wanted to focus on family when creating Lumberjack Johnny’s,” owner David Oshefsky said. “The venue, (located at 1017 Waube Ln. in Ashwaubenon) was named after our grandpa John. He was a big part of our lives and always loved ‘the up north.’ He sadly passed away in 2011, and we miss him dearly.”

Oshefsky and his wife, Necole, took that “up north” feel and ran with it, adding axe throwing, pinball and a bar.

“The interior of the venue is Wisconsin-themed with ‘cabin elements’ for (grandpa’s) love of visiting the cabin with his family and hunting with all of his brothers, cousins, and many friends,” he said. “You may even find a photo or two of them at Lumberjack Johnny’s.”

Oshefsky said the idea of axe throwing fits in well with the venue’s overall theme, but there is more to it than just the axe that makes Johnny’s unique....

Bay Bank: Teams up with Native CDFI to help small businesses
WIS BUSINESS

As the only tribe-owned bank in Wisconsin, it was only natural for Bay Bank to reach out and forge a strong relationship with the First American Capital Corporation, Inc. (FACC), a Native Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) organization, certified by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

While Bay Bank offers a variety of loans and products to businesses, FACC works with many businesses initially unable to qualify for a traditional business loan.

“We share a similar mission — to help Native Americans through economic development,” said Nathan King, Bay Bank’s vice president. “We want to help FACC build its capacity since they can help more small businesses.”

FACC Co-Executive Director Gary Mejchar said working with Bay Bank allows the organization to assist more businesses, including expanding or newly formed tribally owned enterprises. FACC has been especially active in helping and growing construction industry-related firms, a market sector FACC has considerable experience and expertise working in. Those businesses will likely benefit from the 2021 federal infrastructure law since a portion of contracts will have participation goals for qualified businesses with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) certifications. FACC aids businesses with the DBE and other local/state/federal minority certification programs....
