Volatus Infrastructure wants to make electric aircrafts accessible to everyone. Here's how it could happen
OSHKOSH NORTHWESTERN

OSHKOSH - Imagine a trip from Oshkosh to Milwaukee that took just 15 minutes by electric aircraft.

That's what Grant Fisk daydreams about. With advancements in electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircrafts, he — and many aviation industry experts — don't think it's too far off.

But Fisk wants to make it affordable and accessible. He founded Volatus Infrastructure in 2021 to provide the technology needed to make that possible, and now he's hoping the Fox Valley could be the center of aviation innovation.

In March, his company announced a partnership at Wittman Regional Airport to construct an eVTOL terminal that would allow users from around the world to take off and land in Oshkosh...

Pierce Manufacturing looking to hire 200 new employees ahead of two building expansions
POST CRESCENT

FOX CROSSING - Pierce Manufacturing's lobby was filled last week with potential employees during the company's hiring event at its facility on American Drive.

The hiring event was the second the company has hosted in an effort to fill 200 new positions that'll be created by an expansion of its truck-building plants in Neenah and Fox Crossing. Those jobs include welders, painters, electricians, assemblers and material coordinators.

"I'm looking to hire about 120 today," said Stephen Kohler, Pierce's director of human resources.

Pierce, the custom fire apparatus subsidiary of Oshkosh Corp., announced in November it would start work on a 90,000-square-foot expansion of its Fox Crossing location and a 60,000-square-foot expansion of its Neenah facility. The company said the expansions, expected to be done in the fall, are needed to help it keep up with global demand for its trucks....

Northeast Wisconsin housing won't cool down even amid almost 5% interest rates
FOX 11 - WLUK

NORTHEAST WISCONSIN - The hot housing market in Northeast Wisconsin isn't expected to cool down anytime soon.

A for sale sign hasn't been in front of Vicki Rifleman's Green Bay home for more than a week. Her realtor says she should expect a crowd.

“It went on at 10 o'clock this morning and at 11:50 I have four showings already and we’re not done," said Rifleman.

Realtor, Monte Reyment, says he's not shocked, it's a seller's market.

“Anything under $400,000 is still in my opinion a feeding frenzy for buyers, there’s a ton of buyers and such a lack of inventory for those affordable home prices," said Reyment.

Wisconsin Realtors Association's April Report shows Statewide listings are down 11.7% this year compared to 2021.

In April 2022 there were only 18,131 active listings....

The first doctors of Indigenous education have graduated from UW-Green Bay. Here's what they plan to do next.
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

GREEN BAY - Dr. Crystal Lepscier, Ed. D, was looking for a way to help other Indigenous students navigate their way through microaggression racism while working on her dissertation.

For her, it was about reconnecting with traditional Indigenous ways, such as by learning how to make moccasins and then teaching that skill to others.

Reconnecting to one’s culture can be effective in addressing "racial battle fatigue," Lepscier argued in her dissertation....

Green Bay students build homes, gain experience through construction program
CBS LOCAL 5 - WFRV

GREEN BAY - A local program that helps create career pathways for high school students while they build new homes in Green Bay, will hold a celebration on May 24.

Bridges Construction and Renovation is a Green Bay Area Public School District program that offers high school students a community-based, hands-on learning experience in the construction and renovation industries.

The event on May 24 gives guests an opportunity to tour the home they built from the ground up this past year on 331 S Irwin Avenue, while also celebrating the students and the Bridge program.

Next year, more than 30 high school students will work on building two new homes in Green Bay and complete a home renovation project.

The students enrolled for next year represent four local high schools; East High, Preble High, West High, and the John Dewey Academy of Learning....

Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.: New research unveils Wisconsin’s regional and national appeal for living and doing business
WIS BUSINESS

MADISON - A new survey by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) reveals that both in-state and out-of-state residents view Wisconsin as a good place to do business, raise a family, and enjoy a high quality of life.

While, perhaps unsurprisingly, four out of five Wisconsin residents and business owners surveyed said the Badger State is a good place to live and do business, the research also discovered that Wisconsin appeals strongly to out-of-state residents at levels that exceed other Midwest states. Study participants, both in the Midwest and nationally, ranked Wisconsin and Michigan as the most appealing Midwest states overall.

Among Midwest states, respondents ranked Wisconsin first for access to outdoor activities and post-secondary educational opportunities, second for access to health care and a sense of community, and third for cost of living....
