(WLUK) -- U.S. News & World Report has shared its 2023-2024 best places to live in the U.S.

Green Bay topped the list. The metro area has been on the list before, but never at number one.

The report looks at affordability, quality of life and job market.

GREEN BAY (WLUK) -- The Rotary Club of Green Bay handed out their annual "Free Enterprise Award."

Club member and former FOX 11 news anchor Tom Milbourn was there to celebrate this year's recipients -- Kate Burgess and Tom Burgess.

The award was for the couple's exceptional ongoing work as co-founders of the company "Elevate 97" which offers a wide range of integrated and independent services for print, graphic design, and commercial signage.

DOOR COUNTY (WLUK) -- Signs of spring are all around in Door County.

Producers say the recent warm temperatures are giving a boost to the cherry crop.

"The bloom came real quick here. Last week we got into the 70s, and they popped out real fast," said Dave Schartner, Schartner's Farm Market Owner.

Community Skills Initiative Wisconsin wrapped up its two-month UpSkill-A-Thon competition March 31.

United Way Fox Cities collaborated with Microsoft Philanthropies to launch the Community Skills Initiative and to help jobseekers, professionals, and students gain new skills for in-demand roles in the digital economy.

Wisconsin was one of three communities selected to launch Community Skills Initiative websites and host UpSkill-A-Thons nationally in 2023. In total, there were 280 UpSkill-A-Thon competitors who earned more than 940 Career Essentials Certificates and certificates of completion.

Stephenson National Bank teaches financial literacy in schools
INSIGHT ON BUSINESS

Staff members gave presentations at schools in Marinette, Menominee, Stephenson, Wausaukee, and Crivitz to share money saving lessons with kindergarten through eighth grade students.

Lisa Hower, Financial Literacy Coordinator, said the program has been a highly rewarding experience for both her and SNBT volunteers.

"Witnessing the next generation's enthusiasm for saving money and securing their financial future has been a joy for myself and the program's volunteers," said Hower. "The positive impact this initiative has on children in our community is something I love about the program. The time and effort invested in the program have proved to be worthwhile, and we are thrilled to be in the classroom engaging with students and seeing them comprehend the significance of saving money for their future."

Plymouth food processing technology company receives DATCP grant
WHBL RADIO 

A Plymouth dairy processor that uses pressure to inactivate bacteria in food products without cooking will be able to do more thanks to a grant from the State of Wisconsin. Safety Fresh Foods LLC of Plymouth plans to invest its award towards innovation and waste reduction in its operations.

The Department of Ag, Trade and Consumer Protection received 38 applications for the 2023 round of Dairy Processor Grants that awarded a total of $400,000 to 21 companies The awards are designed to foster innovation, improve profitability, and sustain the long-term viability of Wisconsin’s dairy processing facilities. The awards made up to $50,000 available to each applicant, with recipients required to match at least 20 percent of the grant amount.
