MANITOWOC -- A Manitowoc woman’s non-profit organization is on mission to Grow it Forward.

On the first Wednesday of each month, we bring you Women Changing Wisconsin reports. In 2014, Amber Daugs founded Grow It Forward with a goal to provide food and farming education stemming from her own experience with food insecurity.

“Back in the recession of 2008-2009, I was getting a little worried about where food was coming from, and I started my own garden,” says Daugs. “And I guess the inspiration kind of literally grew from there.”...

GREEN BAY -- Paper Converting Machine Company (PCMC), part of Barry-Wehmiller, welcomed 70-plus customers, suppliers and area supporters to its new Packaging Innovation Center on April 26 for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tour and overview presentation.

Located at PCMC’s headquarters in Green Bay, the state-of-the-art facility – focused on the printing and packaging industries – will serve as a resource for training, demonstrations and industry trials, along with research and development opportunities. The new center features the latest equipment for plate mounting, anilox roll laser cleaning, and central impression and inline flexographic printing....

'Huge developments': Little Chute's north side attracts a flurry of construction activity

Reader question: What’s being built at 4100 Vandenbroek Road in Little Chute? There's also construction just east of there with tall, stainless steel tanks. Is that the same development or something different?

Answer: The construction at 4100 Vandenbroek Road is for a $21 million FedEx shipping and distribution facility.

The construction to the east at 3805 Freedom Road is for Agropur Inc.'s $168 million cheese factory.

Despite their proximity, they are separate projects...

Ali Akbar Gholami arrived in the United States last September with little more than his work ID. He had no time to gather much else as the Taliban took over the Afghanistan capital of Kabul, prompting the U.S. to airlift him and 76,000 Afghan nationals to safety.

But Gholami — who speaks fluent English, studied civil aviation for two years and previously worked at Kabul International Airport — brought skills and a work ethic that American employers desire amid a tight labor market. That’s particularly the case in Gholami’s new home state of Wisconsin, where the unemployment rate has dipped below 3%, pushing employers to boost salaries and benefits to attract talent....

Wisconsin's coolest Airbnb is a submarine in Manitowoc

The USS Cobia, a decommissioned World War II submarine at the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, is allowing people to do overnight stays on the historic vessel. It's basically one of the coolest Airbnb's in the state...

Sustainable Development Institute at College of Menominee Nation awarded $650,000 Sustainability Grant
COLLEGE OF MENOMINEE NATION  

KESHENA -- Recently the Bay and Paul Foundation awarded $650,000 to the Sustainable Development Institute at College of Menominee Nation. College President, Christopher Caldwell, expressed his gratitude for the large gift, saying, “We are always deeply indebted to those who see the importance of our work as one of the nation's 35 accredited Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). 

Part of that work for the College of Menominee Nation includes the focus on sustainability that is led by our Sustainable Development Institute (SDI) for over 25 years. SDI leads many projects to better understand human-environmental relationships, including Indigenous peoples and climate change..” These funds will be distributed over two years of programming to initiate a revisiting of the theoretical model of sustainability and SDI as an institution....

Luxemburg meat processor receives state grant
WLUK

LUXEMBURG -- A Kewaunee County meat processor is getting a state grant.

Paulie’s Chop Shop of Luxemburg is getting one of five meat processor grants through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection. The $50,000 grant will be used to build a new butcher shop, training, and buying equipment.

A total of $200,000 was available in grant money. DATCP said it received 100 applications with more than $4.4 million in requests...

'Women Helping Women': Ashwaubenon group raises $12K for Ukrainian women in need

GREEN BAY – A local marketing organization, with the help of individuals from all over the country, was able to donate over $10,000 to Ukrainian women in need.

During the month of March, the women of Elevate97, a print and marketing company based in Ashwaubenon, set out on a goal to support Ukrainian women impacted by the Russian invasion.

To do this the group launched the Women Helping Women initiative which entailed the women of Elevate97 designing, hand-making, and selling, nearly 1,000 t-shirts...

GREEN BAY- Jason Derulo will cap off the Titletown District's Summer Fun Days Showcase with a free concert on June 4.

The “Want to Want Me” and “Savage Love (Laxed – Siren Beat)” singer will perform in the west parking lot of Lambeau Field along South Ridge Road, which will be closed to traffic early in the afternoon so the concert crowd can spread out from the parking lot to the Titletown Plaza.

Concert activities begin at 8 p.m. Opening acts still to be announced will perform on a separate stage at the base of Ariens Hill from 3 to 5:15 p.m. and 5:45 to 8 p.m...
