Town of Gibraltar gets state approval for TID to help develop affordable workforce housing
GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE 

MADISON - Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill from the state Legislature that allows the Town of Gibraltar to create a tax incremental district that would be created largely to fund infrastructure for a proposed affordable workforce housing project.

The new district would be just south of Fish Creek, and its funds would enable the town to install sanitary sewer lines and an interceptor that would service more than 100 proposed workforce housing units, with other development possible. While its borders have yet to be drawn, Town Administrator Travis Thyssen said the area in question runs roughly from the Settlement Shops to the Little Sweden resort along State 42...

Lakeshore Technical Colleges Partners with UW Green Bay for credit transfers

MANITOWOC - For the first time in it more than 100-year history, Lakeshore Technical College will begin offering associate of arts and associate of science degrees this fall.

Both degrees cover general education requirements for a student whose goal is to transfer to a four-year college to earn a bachelor of arts or a bachelor of science degree.

And through a new partnership with the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, LTC students graduating with the AA or AS degree will have guaranteed junior standing when they enroll at UW-Green Bay...

Appleton airport breaks travel record for the month of March

GREENVILLE -- The Easter weekend is expected to be a busy time for people looking to travel and it comes as the Appleton International Airport breaks its all time record for the most passengers, even as the price for airfare goes up.

Airport officials we spoke to, say March was their busiest month ever, with more than 84,000 passengers coming and going, which is a sign that people want to vacation.

GREEN BAY -- A recent survey shows 42 percent of Americans have started growing their own produce.

Cathy Hedge is the owner of Ivy Trails in Green Bay. She says in the last couple of years, the interest in home gardening has grown exponentially.

"Pretty much vegetable sales, and that type of thing have been pretty flat the last few years before that. But the last two years with people being at home, they’ve welcomed the chance to grow some of their own food at home," Hedge said...

Sturgeon Feast Pow Wow and celebration returns

KESHENA — A cultural celebration is back as the Menominee tribe celebrated the return of the sturgeon to their ancestral spawning grounds on the Wolf River.

This is the first time in two years this celebration has been put on due to the pandemic. The Sturgeon Pow Wow took place on the reservation. It's meant to bring tribal members together, as many consider this their “New Year”.

Southern Door teacher Meacham finalist for national award

BRUSSELS - Southern Door Elementary School teacher Jessica Meacham is a finalist for the 2022 Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

The award is considered the highest honor given by the U.S. government for science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teachers.

Meacham, a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) teacher for students in 4K through fifth grade, has taught the past 18 years at Southern Door as a primary teacher. She was named Wisconsin’s Rural Teacher of the Year in 2013 and National Rural Teacher of the Year in 2014...
