PSC received 194 applications, requesting more than $495 million for State Broadband Expansion Grants
OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today announced the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin (PSC) received 194 applications requesting more than $495 million for the state's Broadband Expansion Grant Program. Funding for the grants was provided by the 2021-23 biennial budget, signed by Gov. Evers in July 2021, which provided $129 million over the biennium for expanding high-speed broadband internet. PSC is expected to award up to $100 million for grants in summer 2022 as part of the first round of funding. The remaining funds will be allocated for future broadband expansion grant opportunities.

“Broadband is a necessity that students and workers, business owners, families, and communities need to be successful, and nobody should have to drive to the end of their driveway or travel into town to sit in a library parking lot just to send an email,” said Gov. Evers. “With the help of local broadband providers, our broadband expansion grants have made great strides in closing the digital divide in our state, and I look forward to getting these funds out the door to continue to expand broadband to those who need it.”....

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

MADISON — Gov. “When we look at ways our local businesses can move Wisconsin's high-quality products worldwide, Wisconsin has a tremendous geographic advantage with the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River on our Northern, Western, and Eastern boarders,” Gov. Evers said. “These investments in our harbors build on the advantage we already have by bolstering our harbors to strengthen our supply chain and open new opportunities for business growth in our state.”...

BIZ TIMES

Wisconsin added 20,700 private sectors jobs in February, the largest one-month jump outside of the immediate aftermath of COVID-19 shutdowns in data that goes back to 1990, according to data released Thursday by the Department of Workforce Development.

Even with the strong month of growth, Wisconsin is still 50,000 jobs behind its pre-pandemic level in the monthly survey conducted by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

“It’s a healthy number, it’s a nice number,” said Dennis Winters, chief economist at DWD, acknowledging the gain was perhaps a little better than expected.

He pointed to 7% growth in U.S. GDP in the fourth quarter as a sign of a growing economy that would suggest this kind of job growth is possible....
