This is part of a federal program called Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD). According to the BroadbandUSA website, The BEAD program provides $42.45 billion to expand high-speed internet access by funding planning, infrastructure deployment and adoption programs in all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands...

Transformative impacts of education: College of Menominee Nation celebrates 30th anniversary
PRESS TIMES

GREEN BAY – The College of Menominee Nation (CMN) — one of 32 fully accredited tribal colleges and universities in the nation and one of two in the state — celebrated its 30th anniversary on March 3 and will continue throughout the year of 2023.

March 3 represented the first day that CMN opened its doors for classes and is known as their official Charter Day. CMN is considered to be a land grant institution, a term coined by federal legislation.

“There’s a land grant institution in every state of the United States,” said CMN President Christopher Caldwell. “They were created through legislation, so you’ll hear them referred to as [Morrill Act] colleges, allocating lands to these universities to develop and offer an education. Eventually, in 1994, there was an act passed that created the tribal colleges and universities. So we’re often referred to as the 1994 land grant institutions...

Wisconsin food, forestry producers export record amount in 2022
WISCONSIN PUBLIC RADIO

Wisconsin agricultural and forestry producers set a new record high for exports last year, topping the previous record in 2021.

The state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection reported that U.S. Census trade data shows food, forestry and agriculture exports totaled nearly $4.22 billion in 2022, up 7 percent from the previous year.

Mark Rhoda-Reis, director of DATCP's International Agribusiness Center, said the growth was surprising after seeing widespread supply chain impacts during the pandemic and high inflation last year.

"All of those things you would point to and say things should be flat or maybe even down," Rhoda-Reis said. "But instead, they're quite a bit up and we believe that's largely due to demand regaining after COVID and actually coming back a lot stronger."...
