Small town, big chamber: Terri Schulz
INSIGHT PUBLICATIONS

For 28 years, Terri Schulz has worked as president of the Waupaca Area Chamber of Commerce. But promoting the community and connecting its people are tasks she’s proudly tackled regardless of a paycheck her entire life. “I’m just a small-town girl,” she jokes. But, as Schulz recently shared with Insight, her passion for Waupaca keeps her motivated to think big.

How did you end up in your role as a chief chamber executive?
Terri Schulz: I am a native, born and raised in Waupaca. My mom and dad both had, and still have, businesses in the community, and I was just kind of raised in that atmosphere of entrepreneurship. My mom was a hairdresser, and for many years, the business was in our home, so I’d go in and help, clean brushes and answer the phone. [After high school] I took a job at a retail store and got involved in the chamber....

America's Birdieland: With top-ranked courses and a run of major championships, Wisconsin gaining status as a top golf destination
WISCONSIN GOLF

When it comes to top-of-mind golf destinations, Florida and Arizona have the weather, Hawaii has the scenery and Texas has land spreadin’ out far and wide. Oregon has Bandon Dunes, South Carolina has Myrtle Beach and Nevada has Las Vegas.

Wisconsin has a disadvantage. It’s called winter. Never let it be said, though, that we don’t punch above our weight. Because when it comes to great public golf, we are the heavyweight champions. In Golf Digest’s 2021 ranking of “America’s 100 Greatest Public Courses,” Wisconsin dominates with seven courses in the top 50 and 10 in the top 100. California also has 10 in the top 100, but only four in the top 50....
