Banks at helm of co-working space for entrepreneurs

GREEN BAY – There is a message printed out on a table tent at every workspace at the Urban Hub that reads: “Be part of the momentum.”

Lamarr Banks, who oversees the co-working space located in the Rail Yard Innovation District for the Greater Green Bay Chamber’s Economic Development team, said he is proud to be involved in that momentum.

“Essentially, we try to provide not only a space for those professionals to work together, but also resources to help them build their businesses,” he said. “We’re for entrepreneurs and professionals who have been working remotely.”

Banks, a Milwaukee native, moved to Green Bay at the age of 15 and attended West High School.....

Avery Rhenwrick of Green Bay had recently graduated from St. Norbert College in De Pere when he got a job doing outdoor wiring for a communications company.

“I spent most of my time alone, and during that time, started to listen to motivational podcasts and do some soul searching,” he said. “It’s probably something I should have done before college, but that’s when I came up with the idea of starting a clothing brand.”

It was at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, in April 2020, when Rhenwrick modified a business plan he had written in an entrepreneurial class in college. That plan was for a retail clothing brand but lacked the passion he was seeking. As he spent his spare time doing a sports podcast on YouTube, he came across an article that caught his attention...

New comic book store, The Bugle, brings comics back to Sheboygan
SHEBOYGAN COUNTY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORP. 

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY — The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation (SCEDC) and Small Business Development Center (SBDC) at UW-Green Bay aim to provide a wide variety of services, resources, and expertise to help encourage entrepreneurial opportunities in Sheboygan County, including businesses that offer unique products to the community.

With the help of the SCEDC and SBDC, Adrian Hackl opened The Bugle, Sheboygan’s only dedicated comic book store located at 1148 Union Ave. The Bugle offers a unique collection of new and vintage comics as well as prized collectibles....

UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN OSHKOSH  

OSHKOSH -- The University of Wisconsin Oshkosh's Alta Resources Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI) is excited to present a business model competition for sophomore, junior and senior high school students statewide. The CEI encourages an entrepreneurial spirit whole providing students with opportunities to develop knowledge, hone professional presentation skills and an experience of enterprise creation.

Youth entrepreneurial competitions provide a safe space to experiment with career paths and business ideas while teaching valuable skills in creative thinking, planning, financial responsibility and importance of relationships. Please consider gathering a team or share this upcoming opportunity with your aspiring entrepreneurs to develop and pitch a business idea.

The Wisconsin High School Business Model Competition will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at UW Oshkosh. The winning entrepreneur(s) can earn a share of $15,000 in awards....

SBA announces Wisconsin nominees for 2022 National Small Business Week Awards
U.S. SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION  

MILWAUKEE—Twenty-one small businesses and organizations have submitted nominations for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s National Small Business Week awards in Wisconsin. The nominees represent a spectrum of Wisconsin’s small businesses and supporters, with locations in both rural and urban communities, and in a variety of industries. “Small businesses create jobs, economies, and communities in Wisconsin and nationwide,” said Eric Ness, SBA Wisconsin District Director. “SBA appreciates the work of the nominees and nominators in applying and sharing their stories. We look forward to honoring the award winners during National Small Business Week.”

SBA will announce the award winners in ten categories (nationally eligible and Wisconsin-eligible) later this spring. More announcements of National Small Business Week activities in Wisconsin are forthcoming.
