Battling Back: Economists Express Optimism About Region's Recovery
Insight Publications
While the economy has taken a beating throughout the pandemic, it’s recovering more quickly than many anticipated and should continue to improve following a sluggish first quarter, according to economists who spoke at economic outlook events for the Oshkosh and Fox Cities chambers of commerce.

Economist Elliot Eisenberg of Graphs and Laughs LLC spoke at the Fox Cities Chamber’s February virtual event and says the economy has outperformed his expectations and made huge strides. “Our economy has done pretty well. It’s going to continue to get better. This is a pretty good story all in all,” he says.

GDP is down 2.5 percent, which Eisenberg calls “really very good.” Stimulus, which came later than he would have liked to see, has helped immensely and more is on the way...

OSHKOSH (WLUK) -- The WIAA state basketball tournament tipped off Friday at the Menominee Nation Arena in Oshkosh.

Growing Opportunity: USDA Grant and Loan Program Benefits Rural Communities
Insight Publications
A program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development is helping small communities create opportunities and give local economies in the New North region a boost through grants and loans.

The USDA’s Community Facilities Program serves rural communities with a population of 20,000 or fewer and assists municipalities, public entities, nonprofit organizations and Native American tribes, says Michelle Wallace, Wisconsin USDA Rural Development acting state director.

“In the 18 counties that the New North region covers, last year USDA Rural Development invested more than $124 million in all programs,” Wallace says. “Of that $124 million, the USDA invested $37 million through the Community Facilities Program in essential facilities and equipment in 14 rural communities.

Howard Board Backs Purchasing Three Blighted Properties
Press Times
HOWARD – After meeting in closed session Monday, Feb. 22, the village board unanimously approved the purchase of three parcels near village hall at 2444 and 2448 Glendale Ave. for $417,000, contingent upon the village receiving state approval to use Community Development Block Grant (https://www.hudexchange.info/programs/cdbg/) (CDBG) funding for the purchase.

Village Administrator Paul Evert said the three parcels, which total about 2.5 acres, were included in the village’s blight finding, which makes the purchase eligible for CDBG funds.

“The state does have to approve each purchase specifically,” he said. “They have not done that yet.”

Last fall, the board passed a resolution declaring the property it is looking to purchase and some other land in the village as being blighted…

All in One Place: Sun Graphics Media, Franzen Graphics Move to Common Space
Insight Publications
When Sun Graphics Media opens the doors to its gleaming new facility later this year, it will christen what it calls the only marketing agency of its kind in this corner of Wisconsin.

The 97-year-old business is completing construction on a new $5.5 million, 53,000-square-foot facility in Sheboygan Falls that will bring all its services under one roof. Sun Graphics Media’s service lines include printing, brand strategy development, marketing solutions, and website and app development.

For now, Sun Graphics Media operates in two separate locations — the creative agency in Sheboygan and the print facility in Plymouth.

“We are streamlining our operations, making efficiencies that we can then pass on to our clients in the form of competitive pricing,” says President Justin Webb. “Our goal is to house all our experts within our marketing matrix under one roof.”

The new facility will house the commercial printing operation on the first floor and creative and administrative personnel in the two-story office area....
