Sister Bay to receive funds from state for Pebble Beach preservation project

GREEN BAY PRESS GAZETTE

SISTER BAY – The last piece of the funding puzzle appears to be in place for preservation of the Pebble Beach property.

That's after the state legislature's Joint Finance Committee awarded a $392,000 grant this week from the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program to the village of Sister Bay to help it acquire the property.

With 600 feet of shoreline on the bay of Green Bay, the Pebble Beach project is a joint effort of the Door County Land Trust and the village to preserve the 16.8-acre piece of land named for the smooth stones that make up its waterfront, with a mature white cedar forest and rolling ridges and swales inland. The village will own and manage the property, and the trust will hold a conservation easement that ensures it will remain undeveloped...
