Brown County United Way provides key piece to help move Green Bay affordable housing project forward

GREEN BAY – The Brown County United Way provided the final piece of the puzzle Thursday in an Appleton developer's plan to build 43 units of affordable housing near downtown Green Bay.

Robyn Davis, Brown County United Way’s CEO, said the agency will occupy first floor-space in the City East building proposed on vacant, city-owned land in the 1100 block of East Walnut Street. The space will primarily be a neighborhood community house made possible partly thanks to a a $1 million federal grant, which came from an omnibus spending bill with the help of U.S. Sen. New North cheesemakers earn gold in U.S. Cheese Championship
INSIGHT PUBLICATIONS 

GREEN BAY – Wisconsin and the New North Region were well represented in the 2023 United States Cheese Championship, but an aged gouda from a Connecticut Dairy took top honors.

After two days of intense competition, Europa, made by the team at Arethusa Farm Dairy in Bantam, Connecticut earned the top prize.

With an score of 98.739 out of 100, Europa topped 2,249 entries from 197 dairy companies and cooperatives across 35 U.S. states....

Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce honors Chamber Champions at 2023 Gala
SHEBOYGAN SUN

ELKHART LAKE – The Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce honored 11 businesses, individuals and nonprofit organizations at its annual Chamber Champions Gala at Elkhart Lake’s Osthoff Resort on Thursday, Feb. 16.

The 11 Chamber Champions were chosen from over 80 nominees, and represent the best of Sheboygan County over the past year.

Here are the 2023 winners:
  • Ambassador of the Year – Elena Staabs, Summit Credit Union
  • MVP of the Team – Adam Payne, Sheboygan County Administrator
  • Manufacturer of the Year – Johnsonville, LLC
  • Retailer of the Year – Six Turtles Boutique

Wisconsin to receive $79.1 million in federal funding to support small businesses
MILWAUKEE JOURNAL SENTINEL 

Wisconsin will receive up to $79.1 million through the federal State Small Business Credit Initiative as part of the American Rescue Plan.

The U.S. Department of Treasury announced Thursday it was planning to allocate $339 million to Wisconsin, Arkansas, Rhode Island, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands to support small businesses and expand their access to capital.

“This is an historic investment in entrepreneurship, small business growth, and innovation through the American Rescue Plan that will help reduce barriers to capital access for traditionally underserved communities,” Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said in a statement. “These SSBCI funds will promote equitable economic growth across the country.”...
