The annual meeting of the NEW Construction Alliance will be held Feb. 28 at 3 p.m. There is no cost to attend the event and attendees do not need to be a NEWCA member. Any organization that would like to learn more about the alliance and/or who is part of the construction industry is welcome and encouraged to participate.

Shipbuilding project means jobs for Sturgeon Bay

STURGEON BAY — A new shipbuilding project is part of a jobs expansion plan at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding in Sturgeon Bay.

"We could be very well doubling our workforce within the next 12 to 16, 18 months," said Craig Perciavalle, Vice President and general manager at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding.

GREEN BAY -- A little over five years ago, Microsoft launched a new program – TechSpark, which aimed to create new opportunities through technology in a handful of communities. At the time, I was an engineer within Microsoft living in Redmond and perked up at the news that Microsoft was building a partnership with the Green Bay Packers to invest in spurring business growth in Wisconsin. As a Wisconsinite myself, I dreamt about the impact this could have on Wisconsin and possibly even myself if the stars aligned just right. 

That vision birthed a new organization which is now widely known as a leader in the region – TitletownTech. TitletownTech is a venture capital firm which is spurring economic growth through investments in scalable startups. Since its launch, I’ve been the Technologist in Residence at TitletownTech, serving as an advisor and connection point into Microsoft for all the startups that TitletownTech invests in....

Community support builds tech skills at Luxemburg-Casco

LUXEMBURG-CASCO -- Over the sounds of 3-D printers, mini CNC mills, and laser engravers, you could hear Luxemburg-Casco High School students thoroughly enjoying the opportunities they have in their Fab Lab classroom.

Since the start of the school year, the district has added five new pieces of equipment to its technical education arsenal. Chief among those is the Fenceless ER-4iA robotic arm, one of the largest in the industry and a sign of the investment the district and its community partners are putting into the technical education program at the high school. In addition to the community donations and district funding, Luxemburg-Casco received a $25,000 grant from the state’s Department of Workforce Development as a part of its Fast Forward program. Director of Learning Services Mike Snowberry says the students’ interest in its Fab Lab courses has only grown, increasing from 74 to 102 students in the last school year alone...
