NEW NORTH – Rebecca Deschane, vice president of talent development for New North Inc., the regional marketing and economic development corporation for the 18 counties of Northeast Wisconsin, has been elected to the board of directors of the Wisconsin Economic Development Association (WEDA). The board election took place at WEDA’s annual meeting, held on Feb. 2 during the annual Governor’s Conference on Economic Development.

“I am honored to join the WEDA board of directors and support their ongoing efforts to advocate for the economic well-being for all in Wisconsin,” says Deschane. “I’m excited about the opportunity to further collaborate with colleagues from across the state to help drive innovative economic- and talent-development solutions that advance economic growth in the great state of Wisconsin.”..

Laurie Joyner Appointed Next President of St. Norbert College
ST. NORBERT COLLEGE

Laurie M. Joyner, Ph.D., has been named the ninth president of St. Norbert College, effective July 12, 2023. Joyner will become the first woman to lead the institution in its 125-year history. She will take over for Thomas Kunkel, who has successfully led the college on an interim basis for one year.

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected as the ninth president of St. Norbert College. A Microsoft Corp. initiative to increase computer science education and digital job opportunities will expand beyond its northeast Wisconsin roots into all 50 states this year.

The company announced the expansion in a blog post this morning that notes while talented people are everywhere, opportunities are not.

TechSpark launched in 2017 to help smaller metro areas develop computer science classroom lessons for K-12 students and retrain existing workers for jobs in demand among local and national employers...

APPLETON/GREEN BAY— February is Black History Month; which can be celebrated by supporting Black-owned businesses in the community.

The Cozzy Corner in Appleton has been serving up their southern cooking in their unique and bluesy atmosphere since 2013 in Downtown Appleton. Owner Philip Bennett says in February they work to support other Black-owned businesses.

“We give out coupons and we ask the other owners if they have any deals going on,” said Bennett. “We’re trying to spotlight other African American owned stores in the area.”..
