FOX CITIES – Friday, Feb. 11 is the deadline for Fox Cities businesses to register for a booth at the Fox Cities Chamber’s annual career expo. The Future Fox Cities Career Expo is slated for March 8-9, 2022 at the Fox Cities Exhibition Center, 355 W. Lawrence Street, Appleton, for 8th- through 12th-grade students from around the Fox Cities.

Multicultural Coalition, Inc. and Pointters Community Initiatives offer free COVID-19 vaccination event at St. James United Methodist Church in Appleton
MULTICULTURAL COALITION, INC.

APPLETON – On Saturday, Feb. 12 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m., the Multicultural Coalition, Inc. and Pointters Community Initiatives will hold the second-dose event for a free COVID-19 vaccination at St. James United Methodist Church, located at 100 W. Capitol Dr. in Appleton (map). The community-led event features interpreters for those who speak Hmong or Spanish, snacks, free books for kids, diapers and personal hygiene products for those who need them.

The Pfizer vaccine will be available for anyone ages five and older; those under 18-years-old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Adults are able to receive their choice of either the Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. First, second and/or booster shots will be provided. ID and health insurance are not required...

Casa ALBA Melanie to host Spanish-language financial education workshop in Green Bay

GREEN BAY - The first of its kind, a new course aims to help people from the Latino community have a better understanding of finance, credit and future planning.

It is an initiative by José Villa, a loan officer at Fox Communities Credit Union and collaborates with Casa ALBA Melanie, a Hispanic resource center serving the Green Bay area.

New Bellin NICU keeps mother, baby in same room

GREEN BAY -- Mothers are able to stay in the same room as their newborn babies who need intensive care at one Green Bay hospital.

Bellin opened its Family Integrated Neonatal Intensive Care Unit last month. The unit allows the hospital to provide what's called "couplet care" with the mother and baby in the same room. Bellin believes its NICU to be the first in Wisconsin to offer couplet care....

Local colleges do their part to help alleviate police staffing shortages

OUTAGAMIE COUNTY -- As state lawmakers debate ways to address a shortage of police officers, local colleges are taking action to find their own ways to help.

Recruiting new officers is a problem we’ve been telling you about for months, with the number of officers at its lowest level in a decade.

In January, GOP lawmakers announced a $25 million dollar package, funded through federal coronavirus relief money, to recruit and retain more police officers.

While action at the state level could still take time, local colleges are doing their part to address staffing problems with each new class in the police academy...

“We’ve seen a lot of foot traffic. We’ve seen a lot of individuals wanting to make legalized bets on sports, and we cover a multitude of sports,” said Chad Fuss, the Gaming Assistant and Chief Financial Officer at the casino. The hottest sport now is pro football.

Evers awards $1M grant to support Hmong, Southeast Asian communities as part of $82M program

APPLETON - A $1 million grant presented Tuesday will boost suicide prevention programs and economic development among Hmong and other Southeast Asian populations across Wisconsin.

Gov. Tony Evers made a stop at Long Cheng Marketplace in Appleton to give the grant as part of Wisconsin's Equitable Recovery Grant Program.

The grant recipient, Wisconsin United Coalition of Mutual Assistance Association, is a nonprofit organization that has 12 member organizations across Wisconsin, including the Appleton-based Hmong American Partnership Fox Valley....
