Local co-working space for women hosts Small Business Resource Week

GREEN BAY -- A co-working space just for women in Downtown Green Bay is offering free events during their first-ever Small Business Resource Week.

Since Monday, The Nest Cowork Plus Club has brought in business experts to help women start, build, and maximize their own business.

“When you come to the Nest again, it’s really about finding someone, connecting with someone, and building a relationship with someone who gets it,” said Lauren Bond, Community Manager and Co-owner at the Nest Cowork + Club.

The event has already been very successful with every seat taken in the space....

Comedian Kaleb Robertson chases his startup dreams with vision, hard work

Unlike most businesses, Kaleb Robertson’s startup is a laughing matter. At least, he hopes it will work out that way.

Although only 21 years old, Robertson is making a name for himself as a comedian. As the owner of Kaleb’s Comedy Center, he has a business plan and a vision. Now he’s searching for a location for his comedy club.

Robertson was one of the few non-technology businesses to be accepted into The Blueprint Green Bay, a program offered by the Greater Green Bay Chamber's Urban Hub. It is described as an accelerator program developed to provide area entrepreneurs of color, female and veteran-owned businesses, and startups with mentorship, technology training and the chance to be awarded seed money....

DE PERE  — When De Pere resident Rhonda Chandler and her family moved to De Pere from Charlotte, North Carolina for a job opportunity in 2015, she quickly noticed the lack of diversity in the area.

“It’s a predominantly white community so when we first came we were the only African American family in our neighborhood,” Chandler said.

She says she felt like her family stood out when they were out in the community. Her son was in high school and she had one daughter in middle school and one in elementary school. It quickly became apparent that there were no teachers, administrators or peers that looked like them...

City of Sheboygan offering financial assistance to small businesses

SHEBOYGAN - The City of Sheboygan has launched the Small Business Emergency Assistance Program to help businesses struggling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding for the program is provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.

Under the program, for-profit businesses with 25 or fewer employees at the time of application will be able to receive a minimum of $2,500 to a maximum of $10,000 to help with business expenses.

To be eligible, businesses must be located within the city of Sheboygan's jurisdictional boundaries, they must have been in operation for a minimum of six months, and they must commit to retaining at least one full-time equivalent employee for the duration of the loan...

Wisconsin early stage investment dollars shatter record in 2021, topping $800 million

Investments in young, Wisconsin-based companies by angel and venture capitalists totaled at least $810 million in 2021, exceeding by more than $300 million the previous mark of $483.6 million set in calendar year 2020.

Research by the Wisconsin Technology Council in preparation for its annual “Wisconsin Portfolio” report has thus far charted 111 deals financed last year by early stage investors, with a relative handful of those deals accounting for about $600 million of the total...

'Eyesore' in downtown Two Rivers to be redeveloped, feature three new businesses

TWO RIVERS – The Two Rivers City Council reportedly approved the sale and redevelopment agreement for a downtown property that has long been vacant.

According to officials, at the Feb. 7 meeting the City Council approved a sale and redevelopment agreement with Wine Not, LLC for the former Uni-Mart property. The property is located at 2023 Washington Street.

Wine Not, LLC reportedly plans to invest over $240,000 into the property and bring three new downtown businesses to the location...

Ahnapee Brewery is making the most of its Suamico space

SUAMICO – From a two-stall garage in Algoma to a large building off Lineville in Suamico, Ahnapee Brewery is making its mark on the craft beer scene in Northeast Wisconsin.

“Beer has always just been my passion,” Nick Calaway, owner and head brewer said. “The process, it takes a long time and you have all of these little things you have to tweak along the way in order to make it better. The process has been a big part of who I am.”

Calaway said the Suamico site shares its name with its sister-location, and flagship brewery in Algoma name, which roots date back to the late 1880s...

Luna Coffee Roasters, based in De Pere, provides schools with everything they need to set up a mini-coffee shop.

One of them is Syble Hopp School, where students Marshawn Gryer and Michael Dury are ready to grind some coffee.
