Walbec Group acquires Verona-based Parisi Construction
THE DAILY REPORTER 

Walbec Group has acquired the Verona-based roadbuilder Parisi Construction, the firms announced this week.

Parisi performs a variety of infrastructure work, including residential site development and water and sewer and concrete work. The firm was founded in 1962 by Sam Parisi and has remained in the family for three generations.

The purchaser, Walbec Group, a parent company that includes several roadbuilding firms, including Zenith Tech, Payne & Dolan, Northeast Asphalt and Premier Concrete. Terms of the deal were not disclosed...

Suburban Enterprises expands with new Appleton building and is hiring more automation, fabrication technicians

GRAND CHUTE - A Fox Valley commercial electrical company has expanded its automation and fabrication capabilities with the addition of a new 20,000-square-foot building.

Suburban Enterprises — formerly Suburban Electric — acquired the building, at 3040 N. Pointer Road in Appleton, from Valley Tool to "meet the growing market demands for custom manufacturing solutions," according to a news release from the company...

Prevea Health plans ambulatory surgery center in Green Bay, aims to lower costs with outpatient operations

GREEN BAY - Prevea Health expects to complete construction of a new ambulatory surgery center in May as it responds to an increasing number of surgeries that do not need a hospital bed.

Dr. Ashok Rai, president and CEO at Prevea Health, said they are estimating around 7,000 surgeries per year, and the construction of the new building is part of a plan to meet those demands...

Calumet County using ARPA money to boost child care center staffing

CALUMET COUNTY -- The high cost of child care has been a nationwide issue for years, and the current labor shortage hasn't been helping.

However, one area county is using federal pandemic aid to recruit child care workers. At Play & Grow Learning Center in Sherwood, the past year has been one of the more challenging for hiring staff.

“We're not only competing with other child care centers, now we're competing more with Home Depot and restaurants that are struggling for staff as well,” said Jason Hodkiewicz, owner of Play & Grow Learning Center....

Appleton offering grants to event organizers, behavioral health providers

APPLETON -- The city of Appleton is offering COVID-19 relief grants to organizers of community events as well as groups that provide mental health services.

To be eligible for the community event grants, nonprofit organizations must provide cultural opportunities, enrich the community and stimulate economic activity.

"The first round of Appleton ARPA grants are focused on providing desperately needed support for organizations whose services are in especially high demand right now, and organizations that have largely fallen through the cracks of other (American Rescue Plan Act) programs," Mayor Jake Woodford said in a news release. "This is the first direct allocation of ARPA funds from the City of Appleton, but it will not be the last."...

Candlelight hike, ski and snowshoe events around Wisconsin in 2022

Wisconsin winters are much more pleasant if you try to embrace them. One way to do that is on a candlelight hike, snowshoe or ski. Parks around the state host events throughout January and February, lighting trails with luminaries and often providing bonfires and treats to warm up with after.

State parks also have capacity limits in place and will close to additional visitors if they hit capacity. Check conditions before you head out at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
