Subject: March 2022 - Full steam ahead for tree planting 🚂

Welcome to your monthly edition of our Climate Change newsletter!

Northumberland County Council is committed to making our county carbon neutral by 2030.

We need everyone to do their bit to help reduce carbon emissions as much as possible over the next decade.

Where can you help make a difference? 👇👇👇

Aln Valley Railway help reduce emissions

To celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, we’ve been working with residents, schools, community groups, towns and parishes across Northumberland to plant tree saplings this winter.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Jubilee this year which invites people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

We’ve selected just a handful of communities that are doing their bit for the planet by planting more trees. We’re telling their stories and why they think it’s so important to take positive steps towards climate change.

The Aln Valley Railway Trust are a volunteer-led community group based at Lionheart Enterprise Park in Alnwick. They are focused on restoring the railway line between Alnwick and Alnmouth to its 1950’s former glory. The group recently planted 120 tree saplings from the Council’s Free Tree Giveaway to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee and help tackle climate change.

Focussing on our natural environment, this session will look at what the Council are doing to increase tree coverage and biodiversity in our communities, and what you can do from home. We hope to have guest speakers from NCC’s ecology department, Great Northumberland Forest team and from a local community group.
