Welcome to your monthly edition of our Climate Change newsletter!

Northumberland County Council is committed to making our county carbon neutral by 2030.

We need everyone to do their bit to help reduce carbon emissions as much as possible over the next decade.

Children at Spring spruce up the nursery with free trees

To celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee, we’ve been working with residents, schools, community groups, towns and parishes across Northumberland to plant tree saplings this winter.

The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark the Jubilee this year which invites people from across the UK to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.

We’ve selected just a handful of communities that are doing their bit for the planet by planting more trees. We’re telling their stories and why they think it’s so important to take positive steps towards climate change.

Spring Nursery in Longhoughton planted 30 tree saplings to enhance their on-site sensory garden with a variety of species, including rowan, crab apple, elder and hazel. Trees form an integral part of the children’s play and learning at Spring, teaching them about nature through collecting leaves, doing bark rubbings and learning at forest school.

Call for Local Traders to deliver energy efficiency home improvements

Friday 11 Feb, 10.30am – 11.30am: Blyth Workspace, NE24 3AG

We have secured ÂŁ9m to deliver Warm Home Grants to eligible residents in Northumberland. Lower income households will be able to apply for grants to improve the efficiency of their homes and reduce energy bills.

We’re looking for local traders to deliver these energy efficiency improvements and are calling for expressions of interest from plumbers, electricians, joiners and small builders in the Blyth Valley area to deliver these contracts.

A drop-in event is being held this Friday 11 February from 10.30am to 11.30am at Blyth Workspace, where the NCC Climate Change team will be on hand to meet interested people and explain how the schemes will work.
