IF ONLY PHOTOS COULD TALK

A strong photo has to have something to say.  Above all other considerations we search for images that move our senses beyond the obvious.  The "End of the Line", from our "1930s" collection, was taken in Texas c.1936.  This serious family meeting could have been about loss of the farm due to the Dust Bowl.  Speculation is in the eye of the beholder.  It is clear that some unhappy decisions are being faced by this family even though we cannot say with certainty what they may be.
We find that the young boy in the middle is the focus of our attention.  The car simply sets the time and place for us.  His body language suggests that he has not had an easy time growing up.  "California Boys" (1947) is from our "People" collection.  If only photos could talk.
