Joel recently shared a story of a provider we are currently working with who was contacted with a strange request for transport. It was for a one-way wheelchair transport from a Walmart to a residence.
It appears the husband had a heart attack and the EMS arrived to rush him to the hospital. The wife was wheelchair-bound and couldn't accompany him because of the current Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the police called our provider to take her home.
From what I understand, the next day the Chief of Police contacted our provider explaining how the police department is inundated with requests for transportation because other providers are shut down.
The Chief of Police requested our provider reach out to area hospitals and ERs to share information about their service in hopes of diverting requests for transportation away from the police department.
Joel drafted an email that our provider forwarded to each hospital, emergency room, and local facilities. With each email they attached a copy of a "3-Point Preventive Action Plan" that Joel created.
Since sending out these emails, our provider has already begun receiving requests for transportation and, from what I understand, they are already working on negotiating a monthly retainer with one of the ERs to keep our provider operating during third shift.
Because you are an active UMTPG member and we appreciate you being a part of our community, we are attaching a copy of the initial email that Joel drafted on behalf of our client along with a copy of the "3-Point Preventive Action Plan."
