Have you ever felt as though somehow the universe was just an unfriendly place to live?
Like somehow life just hasn’t been on your side?
It is a difficult feeling to be with.

And while it is true there is lot going on in this world that is unpleasant, you know deep down inside that the Universe has a lot to offer you—if you could just get to it.
|
|
|
|
In those moments, how do we go from experiencing the universe as an unfriendly place to feeling it as a friendly one?
Albert Einstein suggested that asking ourselves if the Universe is friendly is one of the most important questions we can ask ourselves. Here are his thoughts:
For if we decide that the universe is an unfriendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to achieve safety and power by creating bigger walls to keep out the unfriendliness and bigger weapons to destroy all that which is unfriendly and I believe that we are getting to a place where technology is powerful enough that we may either completely isolate or destroy ourselves as well in this process.
If we decide that the universe is neither friendly nor unfriendly and that God is essentially ‘playing dice with the universe’, then we are simply victims to the random toss of the dice and our lives have no real purpose or meaning.
But if we decide that the universe is a friendly place, then we will use our technology, our scientific discoveries and our natural resources to create tools and models for understanding that universe. Because power and safety will come through understanding its workings and its motives.
Given Einstein’s view, we could surmise that seeing the universe as unfriendly is a defensive posture.

So, when the universe feels unkind or even unsafe, you might ask yourself these questions, “What am I trying to protect?” and “What feels endangered?”
|
|
|
|
Give yourself plenty of time and space to explore the fragile part of you that has felt a need to defend. Give that part of you plenty of compassion, so it can finally relax.
Then, as you feel a sense of peace, give yourself an opportunity to discover the kinder nature of the universe.
Notice how the beautiful ways the universe experiences itself, supports life, and creates through you.
You and the universe might be connecting through your:
- Visions
- Dreams
- Premonitions
- Soft words in the back of your mind
- Relationships with animals
- Sounds you hear when you meditate
- Empathy
- Feelings in your body
- Emotions
- Things you touch
- Plant divas
- Feng shui
- Geometry
- Spirits
- Or hundreds of other ways
Those psychic impressions are how the universe and the Divine support you.

|
|
When you recognize and understand the universe’s messages and signals within you, you are able to truly receive support and the universe feels much kinder.
|
|
As you feel the friendly nature of the universe, you experience greater ease and speed in your acts of creation.
This month as we explore the nature of the universe, consider what would need to shift inside you in order to experience an even more supportive and benevolent environment.
