| | | Hello, summer! June has arrived...with its long days of sunshine and transition into new schedules. We at MCMA are eager to facilitate the summer programming weāve thoughtfully prepared, sure to elevate the season ahead with memorable musical learning and authentic student engagement. Read on to discover Juneās Student of the Month, spring recital information, MCMAās Class of 2025 graduates, summer camp registration details, Jazz in June reminders, a Harmony for All update, upcoming Music Togetherā and kidsā opportunities, gratitude for the Subatomic Spring Music Festival, faculty news, and important dates. | | | | | | | Meet our June Student of the Month! Greta is a long-time percussionist, and sheās continued her drum studies into adulthood. She became a MCMA student of Jeff Densmore in December of 2024. Jeff has this to say about his student:
āItās been a pleasure working with Greta. She comes into the drum studio with an excellent mindset, a smile, and a āget to workā attitude. Not only do I appreciate her positivity, Greta also practices regularly ā and I can see progress in her play. Greta came to me with the skill of already being able to read rhythms, which makes for a more fun experience, too. I play guitar and congas while Greta works on her craft as a drummer.
Greta likes the challenge of more complex rhythms, so she is working on an orchestration of an Afro-Cuban rhythm called āSongoā for conga and drumset. Greta is also invested in working on different grooves, basic rock beats, and shuffle and blues concepts. She has a great sense of time and, as a result, has become more confident in the fills. All in all, Greta is AWESOME!ā | | | | | | | The Spring Recital is just around the corner! Join us on Sun, June 22 at 2:00pm at Strand Theatre in Rockland!Ā Invite family and friends, and come celebrate the amazing work that our students and faculty have accomplished this semester. Special thanks to our recital sponsor, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust -- and to the Strand for hosting and partnering with MCMA!
This event is free to the public; donations to offset recital costs are gratefully accepted, though. You can make a donation in person, or click the button below to make a donation. | | | | | | | | | Congratulations to the MCMA class of 2025! We are delighted to celebrate the accomplishments of Lulu, Scout, and Addie this graduation season. Their impressive musicianship, dedication to progress, and positivity will be fondly remembered by so many in the MCMA family. We are honored to witness the growth they've made, and we will continue to champion them in the future!
A special shout-out goes to Scout, the LONGEST tenured MCMA student! Here she is in her very first lesson, in 2015, with MCMA founder Tom Ulichny. | | | | | | | | | MCMA has options to suit, support, and celebrate every student musician this summer. Not only do we offer private lessons on a variety of instruments (including digital music, songwriting, and music production), we also have camps galore! *Camp scholarships and tuition assistance for lessons are available.

It's important for women in music to stick together and empower each other. This intensive 4-day experience is an opportunity to dig deep into skills, repertoire and the experience of rocking out with other musicians in a supportive, creative, FUN space. | | | | | | Blues Intensive camp is a deep dive into the heart and soul of blues music! This immersive program welcomes young musicians to explore the rich history, techniques, and improvisational spirit of the blues. Participants will develop their musicianship through group jam sessions, expert instruction, and hands-on rehearsals... all culminating in the once in a lifetime opportunity for students to take the big stage at the North Atlantic Blues Festival on Sunday July 13. | | Performance at Maine Lobster Festival | | | | Students in Gig Camp will get a taste of everything thatās involved in beingĀ a part of a gigging band; from choosing, rehearsing and polishing for performances to recording a demo and marketing their group locally. They will learn how to book a gig and set up their gear for a performance. There will be performance opportunities throughout the week, including performing at the Maine Lobster Festival! | | | | | | FREE OF CHARGE to all participantsĀ (*thanks to the generosity of the Eric Davis Jazz Fund*), this experience will differ from a typical MCMA day camp. The camp willĀ involve as much playing, listening, improvising, thinking and sharing as humanly possible, all geared toward developing a different idea of what "Jazz" means to a young person in 2025, and how the concepts of jazz can support our musical development and expression.
PLEASE NOTE: the drum and bass seats have now been filled for this Intensive. There is still plenty of room for brass, woodwinds, mallets and piano.
Enrollment is by invitation or teacher nomination (band teacher, private instructor, school teacher -- or, in certain cases, parent).Ā Click the button below to nominate a student. | |
