In addition to the work that happens in our studios, MCMA offers extensive school and community programming. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to complement and extend the excellent work already being done by local teachers.
Currently, MCMA is partnering with RSU13 to provide ACE/GT extension classes. MCMA faculty member Dr. Heather Beers has been meeting weekly with middle school students to dig deeper into their music skills and knowledge. She is building the curriculum for this class around Boomwhackers (rhythm instruments that are pitched plastic tubes). With them, she is teaching sight reading (treble and bass clefs), intervals, rhythm, and harmony. Students are achieving these goals through learning different songs -- including the theme from the video game Mortal Kombat! |
