Subject: McDowell Minutes: Walking by Faith - December 2024

McDowell Minutes
December 2024

“And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:31-33)
Above: Perpetual Virgin Mary of Altagracia (supreme grace; who appeared to the Spanish conquers assuring them of victory over the indigenous people) holding the Christ child with an adult face. Jesus, as perpetual "Christ Child," and Prince of this world (holding globe), points with two fingers to his mother, Queen of Heaven, as the superior one to be adored. She has light emanating from her, while Jesus is denied being "the true light, which gives light to everyone" and "the light that shines in the darkness" (John 1:5, 9). He remains dependent upon her! This is the distorted idolatrous understanding of Christmas largely known here in the Dom. Rep. Picture from a Dominican home.
Santiago Theological Seminary
  • Praise God for the graduation in December of 40 students in Santiago and 85 students in Santo Domingo (total 135) from our Certificate in Christian Counseling!
  • Pray for the recruitment of new students for the start of the new cycle of the counseling program.
  • Our ten students at the GAP have had a wonderful experience their first semester. Pray for students to register for the start of our second year of the GAP Year in August 2025. See https://gap.stsantiago.edu.do . Let me know of any potential candidates.
  • Pray that the Lord would direct us to just the right location for our GAP Year for the next academic year, as what we are using now will be sold.
  • Praise the Lord STS received a small grant from a foundation to fund a new coordinator for our certificate in theology. Pray for funding to come in to meet the balance of what is still needed for our operating expenses. We have an excellent candidate ready to take on the coordinator role.

  • As we need to promote the GAP Year and seminary on social media, we have need of a quality phone camera to make short videos, pictures, and seminary communication. Let me know if you have a i-phone 15 Pro to donate as you upgrade or if you would like to contribute to a new phone.
Family Update
  • Praise the Lord Kaleah is adjusting to life in the DR, after initially going through a rough time because of the transitions. Anne is enjoying her students and colleagues at Santiago Christian School.
  • I had a wonderful opportunity to meet with classmates and teachers from my childhood school from 50 years ago at Asuncion Christian Academy in Paraguay. About 35 of us met at a camp near St. Louis in IL. My siblings and their spouses were there too.
  • Praise God we will have the opportunity to visit with family and friends in FL and Philadelphia during the Christmas/New Year break.
Prayer Requests
  • Pray for some important decision that need to be made regarding the direction of our seminary very soon. May the Lord give us both faith and being realistic within our present circumstances as to what we can expect to do in the coming year.
  • Pray for Bruce leading a missions seminar with Chris Istrati in the spring, for the recruitment of missions minded candidates to prepare for the global mission field.
  • Pray for God's provision of a part-time fundraiser for STS.

  • Pray for recruitment of needed staff and funding to support them.

  • Pray for a blessed family trip to the USA for two weeks of Christmas break.
  • Pray for completion of steps towards having our own classroom, offices, and hospitality room built for STS.
  • Pray for growth in faith of two men Bruce witnessed to who gave their lives to Christ this morning!
