Subject: Raw Milk Action Alert for Hawaii!

Dear Friend,

If passed, House Bill 521 (HB 521) would authorize the sale of raw milk and raw milk products directly from producers to consumers, for human consumption, with certain restrictions. The bill would also authorize the sale of raw goat milk for pet consumption and establish labeling requirements.

HB 521 will have a hearing on March 20 at 1:30 pm. Please contact your Senator and ask him/her to vote for raw milk but with language that ensures that a smaller independent producer will be able to produce and sell without unnecessary regulatory burdens. Herdshares or cow shares involve personal ownership and should not be included in proposed regulation.

See action steps below and share this alert with your friends and family in Hawaii.

In good health,

Alexia Kulwiec

Executive Director

ACTION TO TAKE

Contact your Senator asking him/her to vote YES on HB 521. Calls are more effective than emails.

Don't know who represents you? Find out who represents you HERE

If your representative is on the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services (listed HERE) or the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Environment (listed HERE), please call him/her as soon as possible since HB 521 will be heard by those committees on March 20 at 1:30 pm.

Emails and calls can be brief—You can simply give your name, identify yourself as a constituent, and ask the Senator to support the bill. If you have time, add a sentence or two about why you support this bill. We suggest that you also encourage your Senator to support raw milk sales in Hawaii that protect the independent farmer’s ability to sell raw milk and leave herdshare arrangements out of the proposed law.

Note that written testimony is due 24 hours in advance of the hearing. To submit testimony, see the “Submit Testimony” button at the top of the bill page HERE
