Subject: November Newsletter: Policy Updates & End-of-Year Reflections

Plus: field notes from the Regenerate Conference!

Hello Friend, and welcome to the November edition of our monthly newsletter. 🍁 Let's dive right into our policy update!

POLICY UPDATE

We’re tracking several food freedom bills expected to be introduced later this year or early next.

If you’re a member and you learn about new or developing bills in your area, please let us know!

North Carolina:
We’re still watching Bill S639, which includes a section on raw milk. The question of herdshare validity was sent to the Agriculture Committee for further study, and we’re waiting for additional updates and possible hearings.

Florida:
We’re keeping an eye on proposed rules 5K-4.033 and 5K-4.020, which could affect poultry and egg producers.

Illinois:
SB 2702 was introduced this month. It would allow on-farm sales of raw milk without a permit and off-farm delivery with a permit. We’re working with one of our Illinois members to connect with the bill’s sponsor and learn more.

Ohio:
HB 406, introduced in August, adds new requirements for raw milk producers. After feedback from producers, we’ve heard the bill may be withdrawn, but we’ll keep watching.

Oklahoma:
We expect a bill to be introduced soon that will address poultry exemption issues, including the current prohibition on open-air slaughter

Wyoming:
A bill may be on the horizon to create a 20,000-bird poultry exemption and open new sales opportunities for small producers.

OUR FOOD. OUR FREEDOM. OUR FUTURE.

For decades, the policies that determine how our food is grown, raised, produced, distributed, and sold have benefitted industrial operations over independent farmers, ranchers, and artisan food producers. We don’t believe the government has the right to choose what we eat, or how we grow or raise food.

The FTCLDF team spent 2025 fighting for scale-appropriate regulations and empowering the farmers, ranchers, homesteaders, artisan food producers, and consumers who make up our vibrant community.

Together with our members, donors, and allies, we achieved fulfilling accomplishments and faced some of our greatest challenges:

Protected Maine’s Food Sovereignty Law

Defended small farms in Michigan

Objected to the "Framework for Salmonella in Raw Poultry"

Prevented negative changes to herdshare use with Ohio members

Supported improvements to on-farm poultry processing and sales

REPORT FROM REGENERATE

FTCLDF is excited to be in Sante Fe, New Mexico at the Regenerate Conference!

Yesterday, Alexia led an engaging discussion of policy needed to support regenerative agriculture. This included how to support meat processing by measures such as the PRIME Act and the Local Foods Act, grazing on public land, and on-farm poultry processing regulations.

The conference is attended by ranchers, farmers, food producers, allied organizations, and researchers.

The energy and dedication to healing the land, producing healthy food, and working toward policy change is amazing!

Our community continues to grow and FTCLDF remains dedicated to professional legal work to grow the foundations and support for regenerative agriculture.
