Subject: Defending Community Food Systems — Together

We’ve Got Your Farmer’s Back!™

Dear Friend:

As we work together to gain community control over our food systems, we must be prepared to defend them from regulatory overreach. Just in the past few months, FTCLDF'S emergency hotline was there when:

  • A county health department official shut down an Ohio member’s stand at the farmer’s market due to language on the member’s herdshare sign. FTCLDF prepared the member for a meeting with the health department.

  • A Tennessee member faced an unannounced USDA visit. FTCLDF was on the phone during the inspection, helping protect the farm and draft agreements the agency requested.

  • A Virginia member called with a USDA inspector on-site asking questions about the member’s buffalo meat processing. FTCLDF provided with member with proof that buffalo processing does not require USDA inspection.

These are not abstract challenges. They’re real legal crises that affect real people.

And when a farm, ranch, or food business is under threat, it can jeopardize the stability of the whole community’s food system.

So when we respond to these emergencies, we aren’t just helping an individual producer: We’re holding the line for everyone who wants a community-based, independent food system

It's only thanks to your support that we can maintain this level of legal readiness so that farmers, ranchers, and food producers never have to face the unknown alone.
