The Lost World of Dragons. Developed by Stage 9 Exhibits, is Sloan Museum's newest interactive exhibit running May 16-September 13, 2026. Sloan Museum and Longway Planetarium members and media are invited to preview the new exhibit Friday, May 15, 2026, 5-8 p.m. The Lost World of Dragons explores the mythical histories and mysteries of dragon lore. The Lost World of Dragons includes multiple interactives, a scavenger hunt, a VR dragon flight experience, and animatronic dragons. It is designed to engage all ages but recommended for ages 8+.
Visitors will be immersed in stories and mythology of dragons of nearly every region and culture, spanning from Norway to ancient China. Interactive displays and photo opportunities deeply engage visitors in the amazing world of dragons. The Lost World of Dragons celebrates and explores both the history of and science behind how the dragon lore has grown through ages and cultures.
Adrienne Mayor, a Stanford University scholar, noted author and respected expert, provided consultation for this exhibition, according to Stage 9 Exhibits. Ms. Mayor has travelled the world and dusty archives to bring fascinating dragon myths and lore to life.
“Sloan Museum of Discovery is excited to transport Michigan residents and visitors alike into the mythical world of the dragon,” said Sloan Museum Executive Director Todd Slisher. “This is our sixth special temporary exhibit since re-opening as the new Sloan Museum of Discovery. Lost World of Dragons will entertain the dragon novice and expert alike, and will be a great family destination over the summer.” The exhibit will be open to the public from May 16-September 13, 2026.

Longway Planetarium, Michigan's largest planetarium, will also have a preview of its newest full-dome show, Shark Kingdom, at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday, May 15. Shark Kingdom follows three marine biologist superstars as they come face to face with these awe-inspiring creatures and uncover their secrets to fight for the future of our shared oceans.
