Longway Planetarium Astronomers Have Found Three Meteorites

Flint, MI – January 19, 2018 – Three meteorites will be on display for press viewings at Longway Planetarium today. Two meteorites will be available to view at 9:30 a.m., and a third meteorite will arrive for a 3 p.m. press viewing this afternoon.

Staff Astronomers Todd Slisher and Buddy Stark went on a hunt following Tuesday night’s Michigan Meteor created a flash and a bang in the sky over six states and Canada. They used calculations and data from various sources to locate the fragments.

It’s possible there are more meteorites out there. Any suspect rocks can be brought to Longway Planetarium for further evaluation.

Learn more about the meteor explosion and meteorites at this weekend’s Skies Over Michigan shows at Longway Planetarium. The live star talk is presented every day at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at Longway.org.
Longway Planetarium Executive Director Todd Slisher shows off his meteorite find.
