16+ Hobby Workshop - Whittling

Thursday, August 6, 4:30-7:30 p.m.


Work with wood in this workshop about whittling. Learn about the different types of wood, how to use different cutting knifes, and how to plan your project as you work to make a small sculpture. (Please note: this program requires the use of sharp tools).

Explore the tools, techniques, and terminology of the bookbinding craft while creating a journal of your own to take home. You’ll also gain the skills to bind fan art collections or rebind well-loved books.

Intro to Ballet: Exploring The Nutcracker
August 5 | 1-2:30 p.m.

Is your child captivated by the strength and beauty of ballet? In this workshop, dancers will explore beginning ballet vocabulary and get a behind-the-scenes peek at FIM’s production of The Nutcracker, a beloved holiday tradition in Flint for over 50 years.

Current Traveling Exhibit: The Lost World of Dragons
Open through September 13

Explore the legends behind these mythical beasts in this 6000 square foot interactive exhibition inspired by dragon mythology. This exhibit features life-size animatronic dragons and interactive displays.

"Change Starts Here" Exhibit - Free with General Admission

Here through December 30
Explore this exhibit free with your museum admission in celebration of America 250. The timeline-based exhibit features artifacts, text panels and graphics highlighting significant events in Genesee County and how they influenced national events. This exhibit will be on display in the Sloan Museum circulation corridor during regular museum hours through 2026.
