It's Friday, and that means it's random martial arts video time...
Here's a video that illustrates why you shouldn't showboat in MMA. If two decades of pro MMA fights have taught us one thing, it's that anything can happen in the cage.
Someone should have told these folks that:
That looked like it hurt.
In the "weird videos" segment of today's email, this has to be one of the goofiest things I've seen in a while. From what I can tell, it's a white guy, dressed up as a Shaolin abbot, trying to train a bunch of gwai lo and transplanted Asians how to be Shaolin monks.
Besides the borderline child abuse, this is probably the worst example of Shaolin kung fu I've seen in a while. Someone should tell these folks to ask for their money back: https://youtu.be/dtBQSNUkh40
Of course, we all know that the modern Shaolin temple and Wu Dang temple have little if any connection to the original items. (Read American Shaolin for more on this... and while you're at it pick up Angry White Pyjamas, another excellent memoir from a Westerner who decided to experience eastern martial arts training at the "source.")
Regardless of the fact that the modern Shaolin temple is more or less designed to be a tourist attraction, if you want to see what happens when the government pays people to do martial arts all day long, six days a week, watch this documentary*:
After watching that, I have to say: "Your kung-fu is impressive!"
